  1. Three times...Computer science->Geology->Mass Comm... And now I'm switching to anthro for an MA. Guess I'm fickle!
  2. I'm thinking a long trip into the canyons in SE Utah...but we'll see!
  3. I just freaked out..."Your recent application to XXX University" showed up in my email inbox. I thought it was about my grad app...but no, I live in the same city and applied for a job at the Uni. And it was a polite thanks for applying email. ugh
  4. Not sure it's worth it, but a "Flagging" system e.g. craigslist would help a lot...and preserve the anonymity.
  5. I turn 30 this Saturday!:o Life is good...age doesn't matter.
  6. sounds like you have absolutely nothing to worry about! I've seen the question before, something along the lines of, "have you ever been convicted of a crime" and in most cases they only ask about felonies. But those questions are pretty rare, and you haven't been convicted of anything... relax...
  7. Have you tried the campus Cashier's (or Bursar's) office? In my experience the admissions office doesn't process fees and stuff. Good luck!
  8. most of my deadlines are not until mid-February...?
  9. Hey all, Just trying to put together a decent SOP for CRM programs (public archaeology). I wanted to hear from others who are applying to CRM programs. In your SOP, did you delineate between your theoretical interests (e.g. settlement distribution among Pueblo II sites, or something that would be more applicable to straight arch. programs), and practical interests relating to laws, policies, etc. Does that question make any sense at all? Basically, should I wax on about archaeological theories that interest me or should I show that CRM is actually a better fit for me than arch. programs because I'm interested in laws, policies, and CRM work ? I am thinking that I'm going to address both aspects in my SOP, but I wanted to see what others thought. Thanks for any advice...
  10. I'm almost in the same boat, 2.99UGPA, great LORs, middle of the road GRE-1260. One thing I did this past fall was I took a grad course in my intended field as a non-degree student and received an A. I think this will help out, along w/ my SOP. best of luck to all!
  11. I had to call ETS because I could not link my score up to my online account. Apparently there is some sort of issue that will take up to 10 business days to resolve. Going to be cutting it close w/ the holidays and such...eek!
  12. Hey everyone, So I only applied to one school for this fall for an MA in archaeology. I was rejected...I knew I was a long shot given that my UG major was communications (minor in anthro) but, since the rejection, I have had some time to think about how I can improve my app to this and other schools next year. I would like to complete an accredited field school this summer. My question is...At this point, would any field school experience help my application? How likely is it that my future Master's school would accept an accredited field schools academic credits? Would I be essentially wasting my time now and be required to take my future uni's field course? Another thing is...I know nothing about these field schools. Shovelbums.org has a nice listing of archaeology field schools around the world. Would any of these be acceptable (especially those ran by private firms) as long as they provide academic credit? Thanks, and sorry for being so clueless about all of this! Scott
  13. Thanks for the replies... I am only applying to MA programs (archaeology) at the moment. Time to start looking for arch jobs, field programs, or even volunteer work this summer. Best of luck to everyone in the admissions process, I hope you get to where you want to be!
  14. So I was just rejected yesterday from the only school I applied to for Fall 2010. I thought I stood a chance but I guess I was wrong. Life goes on... Anyway...I decided to email the prof who signed the rejection letter and she actually called me today (I missed the call, damnit). But, she did leave a voicemail. She said that I was: 1) Rejected because I have no previous work in anthropology. My UG major was communications, but my minor was anthropology. I have probably 30 hours of anthro work. What's up? 2) My SOP was not focused. OK, not sure how to fix this but I'm sure I can work on it. 3) I was on academic probation my freshman year. This was 10 years ago. I did poorly my first couple of years in college but, once I switched over to the social sciences, I maintained nearly a 4.0 for the last 2-3 years. Are they really going to hold this against me forever? She said that I was at first going to be wait-listed but there were stronger candidates that they could not admit right away so I was pushed off the wait list. I have decided to attend my UG college as a non-degree student this upcoming fall and spring and take some grad courses and maybe a field course. I'm hoping this effort, along with a new SOP and LORs, will boost my chances at this school (and others) next year. The prof who contacted me today said she would try me again tomorrow. Do you think it's worth bringing up the fact that my minor was anthro (surely that counts as something?) and that my academic probation was during my freshman year before I changed majors? Could I get them to change their mind or is it too late? What can I do to improve my app next year? Thanks, this is a great community and I appreciate any advice!
