  1. a "studentship" in the UK = full tuition and a stipend. What you need to clarify is whether the studentship will cover UK tuition fees (i.e Local) or international fees which you will then might have to top up with your own money. Congrats on getting offered a studentship in the UK.. its quite hard to get funding in the UK for international students as compared to the US...
  2. I got into Pathobiology!!!! See u guys in the fall!
  3. thanks for all the advice. I feel much better now.. I;ll definitely call them and inform them about it. I got mind-*beeped* by my over-imaginative parents (who gave me their over-imaginative genes) when I told them about this. They were like "YOU SABOTAGED YOURSELF. THEY'RE GONNA THINK THAT YOU'RE IRRESPONSIBLE FOR NOT FOLLOWING UP YOUR APPLICATION AND CHANGE THEIR MINDS"
  4. I just got an informal email offer yesterday for my PhD!!!! YAY! which Ive accepted!!!!! unfortunately, my online application status is showing INCOMPLETE status (they didnt update it! despite acknowldeging all my materials/documents have been recieved) should I worry that my offer will be withdrawn???
  5. Hi I was phone interviewed for a PhD prog a few weeks ago, during the interview, they said that they haven't got funding commitment from their usual source for international studenys like me. However I stand a high chance and they will let me know if they get it. Ive been scouting around now and Ive just been awarded a scholarship by an organisation in my home country for further PhD studies. Given this situation, should I call the uni to let them know that funding me isnt an issue now since someone else is paying full fees + allowance for me??? Im not sure how this may sound to them... but Ive taken in to account that I might get rejected on the basis of no funding but now that I have funding, wont that mean the decision of admitting me easier? Im not sure if that may sound like Im de-meaning the programme or anything thanks and hope to hear some advice!
  6. Im in the same situation here and am glad that theres a thread about this.. I got an offer to read MSc Immunology at Oxford and another offer for a science masters on immuno and microbiology at JHU sch of Pub health... am really wrecking my brains over which to choose... I heard that if you apply for PhD after ur masters (which is what I intend to do), US unis tend to be more stern on master students and ure gonna need to have some pubs or else ure quite screwed.. is that true??
  7. Hi all Im an international student currently based in the UK. I was unsuccessful in my PhD apps but I was counter-offered a place to do an ScM in Microbiology n Immunology at JHU's BSPH... I also have another offer to read msc Immunology at oxford.. both institutions are equally reputable and both have great Microbio/ immunology departments.. the thingy is, the ScM is 2 years while the msc at oxford is 1 year... and thus after rationalising.. it seems that doing a masters at Oxford would be faster and better option since both programmes should be comparable. But many have told me that Hopkins would be a better place to do a masters given its reputation in medical research... and Im quite attracted to the strong research focus in the ScM course as compared to the taught MSc in Oxford... ( If you were me which would you choose? need some advice here... I plan to do a PhD and subsequently go into a career in infection N immunity after my masters

  11. I just had a phone interview.. it was going on well.. he even said, it looks like you're definitely a good fit with us. Until he asked "so where else did you apply to?" ... I replied " <insert unis here> but its been disastrous so far" ... he then laughed. Do you think I might have just screwed up my chances????
