  1. Hello everyone. I applied for Moravian College's Speech pathology program for Fall 2019. It is a brand new program. If accepted, I will be the very first cohort to go through. Upon looking at the website, I noticed it says that they are a candidate for accreditation. This is what the website says: "The Master of Science program in Speech-Language Pathology at Moravian College is a Candidate for Accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, 2200 Research Boulevard, #310, Rockville, MD 20850, 800-498-2071 or 301-296-5700. Candidacy is a “preaccreditation” status with the CAA, awarded to developing or emerging programs for a maximum period of 5 years." What does this mean for me when I graduate? The program is two years. Am I still able to get my CCC or does this affect it? Thanks in advance for your answers.
  2. Hi all! I am applying for the Fall of 2017 to: West Chester University of Pennsylvania East Carolina State University (North Carolina) University of North Carolina Greensboro California State Fullerton Clarion University (Pittsburgh) My stats: Undergrad received May 2016, degree in human services cumulative GPA of 3.0 GRE: Verbal 132 Quant 136 Currently taking three pre-SLP classes: Articulation and fluency, Communication disorders and phonetics. Expected to receive at least an A- in each of them. Activities and others: Worked part time all through college volunteered at the American cancer society for 6 months In the process of currently shadowing/volunteering a speech language pathologist I would like all honesty, do you think I can get into any of these schools? Are there chances?
  3. Hi everyone. I am on this board in regards to my best friend, who declared she was interested in SLP just recently. She realized she wanted to do SLP in junior year, but our college didn't have it. So, she decided to a program where she made her own major, which was human services. Before, her dream was social work. Her major in human services included psychology courses, statistics, sociology, etc. She has graduated this past May. Her overall GPA was a 3.0 exactly, with mostly B's and a few C's and A's in the mix occasionally. Her GRE score is low, I do not remember the exact number. She has not taken any SLP courses, however, she did sign up for a post-bac program where she is going to be taking SLP courses all this coming Fall and Spring. She plans to apply this Fall, for SLP schools. The grades and GRE scores are mostly due to slacking off, not being motivated and not studying or preparing for the GRE. I was in a few classes with her, and she didn't really get to the know the professors either. There is maybe one professor I know that could possibly give a good recc. As far as community involvement, she has done minimal work. She did volunteer at the American Cancer society for about 6 months, and participated in the Dance team at our college, but that is all. I am trying to tell her that the odds of getting into SLP schools is rare, but she tells me that she is going to try anyway. I just hate to see her waste the money on applications, as when I do research, SLP seems even harder to get into than medical school. With the research I've done on this, it seems that SLP programs only accept about 20 students? (Forgive me if these statistics are off). Can anyone offer some suggestions or advice?
  4. Hello! I am actually on this board in regards to my best friend who is interested in applying for SLP and if I could get some answers for her, I would appreciate it. She went to a small school (along with me), and she created her own major in human services (much like social work, basically). She did not take any SLP courses, and just recently decided that was her dream career. She graduated from college this past May with a Bachelor's. Now, this coming Fall, she is doing a post-bac program at East Stroudsburg University, where she is going to take a year of SLP under-graduate courses. Her college GPA was exactly a 3.0, mainly due to the fact that she did not try and slacked... I am trying to tell her that with that low of a GPA, it's incredibly hard to get into a school. She transferred schools 3 times, and she doesn't really have a strong connection with her professors (I was in a few classes of hers), so I don't know what she will do about recommendations. Her GRE scores are pretty low as well, and she was not heavily involved in any clubs at school. I want her to go after her dreams, but is it too hard for her to get in? I want to ask people that know a lot about this topic, because I personally do not. Any help or advice would be appreciated..
