  1. Honestly, I would opt for a ThM from a top-tier school for one year of graduate study to compliment your MDiv degree. Another two years if graduate study seems like a little too much since your stats appear to be very good.
  2. Your verbal score is great, don't worry about the AW. Your writing skills will be largely analyzed by your writing sample, not your rushed response to a random question.
  3. Awesome, congratulations!!! Care to tell which school?
  4. Hey brother. I believe that your excellent GPA for your two graduate degress will aid greatly in the application process. However, not to be the harbinger of bad news, I know that Boston University explicitly says that they require a 1300 just to apply to their PhD programs in Religion (one reason why I did not apply there myself!). Harvard and Yale are very selective, but I am not positive that they have a hard GRE cut off for admissions. If nothing turns up this time then do not be dismayed. Consider broadening your options, and [possibly] retaking your GRE after some tutoring to improve your chances. Again, the fact that you have two graduate degrees, and you are publishing puts you in the game. I wish you the best of luck!!
  5. Hey everyone! I suppose it is a little early in the application process to be asking, but it has been slow around here, and maybe this will liven it up. I'm applying to Loyola, Drew, Fordham, Temple, and Iliff/DU for a PhD in theology. Stats: BA in religion: 3.0 MA in theology: 3.9 660V, 530Q, 5.0A
  6. Redreverend, thank you so much for that informative post!! That will definitely assist me in writing my SOP, I appreciate that very much. Congrats on getting accepted to Fordham, they have an excellent program. What is your area of concentration?
  7. I should add that systematic theology is my first preference, but there are various sub-fields in theological studies that I'm interested in, as well as Modern Thought.
  8. I have been lurking this forum for quite some time, and I have learned a lot from all of you. I'm going to apply for a Ph.D. in systematic theology for fall 2011, and I was wondering if some of you could share some advice, especially if you have been accepted to any of the schools that I'm planning to apply to (but I will gladly take any advice!). I have acquired reading comprehension in French, and I plan on taking Latin next year. Undergraduate GPA: 3.0 (BA in religious studies from a small, private university), Graduate GPA: 4.0 (MA in theology from a school that is slightly more prestigious than my undergrad school). GRE: TBD I have received a scholarship for my MA, and I was inducted into Theta Alpha Kappa (honor society). I have a family of my own -- wife and daughter -- so this session is really 'do or die' for me, and all of the help/advice that anyone can give will be greatly appreciated . Specifically, I was looking for advice for the SOP, or anything else that I can do to strengthen my application. How do you think my stats match up with the schools that I'm considering applying to? Any other schools that you think may be good to consider? Thanks in advance!

    Georgetown

Congrats brother (or sister?) on your acceptance!! From what I've read, GT's PhD seems like an excellent program. Do you mind me asking what your stats are? Or perhaps PMing them? Sorry if I seem 'nosy', I'm really just trying to gauge where I might have the best chances of getting accepted (it definitely gets stressful when you have a family! ). What are you going to be concentrating on, and what two religions will you be researching?

    Georgetown

Hey everyone. I know that right now is a very stressful time for everyone, but I was curious if anyone applied to Georgetown for the Ph.D. in comparative religion? I haven't noticed any mention of Georgetown since I've been lurking around on here. BTW, I'm not applying to any doctoral programs this year, just finishing my MA in theology.
