Also, you can have an outside member on your dissertation committee. I wonder if doing that would get you the intellectual growth you desire to receive from the POI outside of your school and might also help make that connection so that your job network can grow. If you can get that person to sit on your dissertation committee, that is... I honestly have no idea how that happens. I'm assuming it's based on who your advisor is.
Cool, yeah I figured it's not the norm but that sometimes it does happen. I definitely don't plan on doing it (wouldn't need to considering where I was accepted) but I was just curious. I guess it's one of those things if it happens naturally then it's understandable but you shouldn't commit to a Phd program thinking that it might happen.
Hey, I am a Rutgers admit as well and will be going to the student's weekend. Question - when discussing "women's history" are you all, in this thread, referring to the broader women's and gender history, lgbt history, history of sexuality, etc. or no?
Hey there! Congrats to you! Yeah, the email said there are 18 of us. Pretty darn cool. I'm looking to specialize in twentieth century US history. Too bad you can't go to the campus visit. I'm looking forward to it, since I will be making my decision probably based on my gut. Now, to access that nebulous gut feeling...
Hey everyone! This might be a weird question but here goes nothing. I'd like to visit the schools that admitted me and thankfully their visiting days don't directly overlap. However, two schools have visiting days right after each other. So, for example, March 1-2 and March 3-5. Considering I have to fly to both schools and do not want to minimize how many flights I take, do you think schools would be willing to reimburse two plane tickets that are coming and going from different places? They just mention up to X amount of money in reimbursement and to save receipts. I don't think there would be a problem with this... but I don't know. Would I have to explain this beforehand?
Hi everyone! First time poster here. I was recently admitted to three schools, among them, Brown. I'm wondering if anyone has heard about when Brown plans on hosting a campus visit for prospective students. While I've heard from the other schools, I haven't heard from Brown and I'd love to visit to get a feel for the department, students, etc. Thanks for any insight!
