  1. I graduated from CMU--loved my experience. I can tell you that your experience over the summer is pretty representative of every summer at that school...I have lots of friends who worked or interned/stayed over the summer and found it really depressing and dead. The college atmosphere of the city turns off for the most part, and most people feel to rushed with summer courses or their internship load to take time out for anything fun. I sent a PM with my own experiences/knowledge of CMU and the campus to ijointoo...couldn't see my alma mater get only one response with a bad review
  2. egh! I'll keep this in mind! Honestly, from the description it didn't sound like they think much of people who enter into this program...but I hoped it was something I was just imagining!
  3. At this point its one of four schools I am waiting on, but Fordham, GWU and Columbia have later deadlines (Called GWU to be sure they were still accepting apps and was told they would be until the 2nd....) I do agree that 4 months is rediculous, and I hope I hear a yes or a no soon. I have a meeting with a former professor coming up in April to discuss my options for next year, and I would like to know whether or not these would include putting together a class schedule or picking up new research to make myself a more attractive candidate for next year! ><
  4. after reading this, I think I am more thankful for a professor who (in the most polite matter possible) told me that she would not write me a recommendation because she did not believe I would excel in a graduate program. I was crushed, I had her for 3 courses, earned As and high marks on my work, excluding one exam, which is what she cited as her reason! At the time I had been taking 7 courses a semester, which is what I did for a large part of my academic career, actually... Anyway, I cried alot and decided to put off my application until I had established more varied and personal relationships with other academics...which thankfully I did...and even managed to get a mentor to help me out in all of this in the process!! But I am glad that she did not agree and write a terrible letter...that would have been much worse!
  5. Bumping this topic to ask if anyone has heard from the MA in American Studies program yet? Its nearly april!
