I'm struggling to narrow down what it is that I want to research. I liked messing about with genetics and microbes in school, and I also liked drug design/synthesis stuff that I did for my honours. I also did several projects on HIV in school, and I enjoyed that. One was a general project on the molecular biology of retroviruses, one was very large and in-depth project on the history and chemistry of HIV HAART medications, and one was a history paper on the origins of HIV and its impact on the LGBTQ+ community. I also used to work at a clinic that did HIV testing, and that was cool.
I haven't really come across anything I'm particularly passionate about though, and I feel like I'd be happy working on most projects in a lab. I struggle to think of projects that would get me incredibly excited, and I see many professors from many universities doing work that I'd be interested in getting involved in. I think I'd like to do HIV research but I haven't found anyone in Canada doing HIV research that excites me. Does anyone else have this issue? How do you narrow down what it is exactly that you want to do?
