Standalone. I would guess BMS is either a more general program or umbrella and they choose specialties later? I'm not sure. Good luck for immunology, fingers crossed for you! I'm just grateful because they told us the exact date we would find out...

Cancer Bio! Edit: oops, forgot to say thank you!

Accepted to University of Colorado -- Anschutz Med Campus this morning and Duke CMB just now! Pretty good day
-
Whoops sorry, been out of the country and trying to not think too much about results haha. My interview isn't until this Friday so I'm not expecting a decision for another few weeks at least.
-
UCSF sent an email that said there was an update to my application and to check the application portal. The homepage showed up with a rejection and if you clicked it, it linked to a rejection letter. For UW, they sent the rejection in the email. I'm expecting an Emory rejection in the near future post-holidays haha so I can let you know how that works
-
Aaaand just got my rejection email from UWashington. The holiday cheer is dead

Saw an Emory Cancer Bio interview up there, does anyone know if Emory will continue releasing interviews post-holidays or was today it? Thanks! Happy holidays

I think that depends on how you prioritize the programs according to your own interests. You can ask to extend the timeframe, but a few people already ran into weekends getting full. For my UNC interview, they gave me two choices, but they were in conflict with two other interview weekends of mine. I asked if they had any others, they gave me a third option and that's the one I switched to. There's no harm in asking if there's other options, especially if you're really interested in the Emory and Duke programs.

That's something I definitely see across all the labs I've been in, but they would be doing that as a PhD student and not as someone who has been hired. I'm not sure how that would translate to authorship, especially primary authorship that many programs require for graduation.
-
I don't know that much about comp bio programs or labs, but if this was a primary concern of yours and something you specifically talked about throughout your applications, this may have played against you? It seems like you should at least be open to generating some data even if you have a wealth of established data from your lab...
-
Exactly, there's a whole lotta options to make yourself a more competitive applicant, so this is definitely not the end all, be all.

What @myhairtiebroke said, it's still early on and it's discouraging to see all the interviews coming in for other people, but there's still time. And also like they said, the NIH fellowship is really great for building up experience. There's also postbaccs and MS programs geared for prepping you for PhD programs.

That was just what I gathered from looking at the results page from last year. That being said, there's not really more than 2 or 3 posts per year about interviews, so I can't really be sure. Plus when I called the office, they didn't give me any info on when they were releasing interviews, just the interview dates. Personally, I want to hold out hope because my dream lab is there haha but it looks bleak Sorry to be a downer ahhhh

Historically, they only have one or two days where they send out invites and people got their's a couple days ago. I think they're done :\
-
They sent me an email that my status had been updated. Rejection on the portal.
-
I'm scared of this, so I call and just saying I'm a current applicant and ask nicely if they could share the info.
-
I'm about to be super sad if they are
-
It sounds like that's what happens. And looking at other posts about CU Denver/Anschutz, it seems like the program admin for admissions is also slightly different.
-
I called the program admin, but they never answered. And then the email came so! I hope your program comes out soon!
-
Just got the interview invitation from CU Denver Anschutz for cancer bio!

UW MCB interviews will be January 25th-27th/28th and February 8th-10th/11th (last days vary just due to flight scheduling). No news on when they're sending out interview invitations, but GOOD LUCK Y'ALL.

I did my undergrad in Illinois during the first polar vortex. It was supposed to be -40F with wind chill and gusts over over 25mph. Everyone though the university would close, or at least professors would cancel class. All we got was an email telling us to get to bus stops early to avoid having to stay outside to long and to layer up. It's a hard life that I very rarely miss.
-
Absolutely. I've talked with the deans and administration about this particular subject and they've also streamlined rotations to protect students and save them time. I can tell you from personal experience that Sinai is really trying to up the ante haha.
-
I haven't heard from UW MCB, but looking at stuff from the past couple years, it looks like we should know in the near future about interviews. As for dates, I can't be sure. I was going to call Thursday if we hadn't seen anything yet.
