  1. I applied to a different program (cancer bio), but they said interview invitations would be out by the end of December for us. Not sure how much this applies to you guys though. Just thought I'd throw it out there.
  2. Yep! Very close to the campus/hospital and literally a STEAL for Manhattan prices. Most PhDs are housed in one particular building, and it's not the nicest, but it has a (new!) quiet study room, gym, and doormen.
  3. Yep, I'm at Sinai right now. Have fun during your visit! I THINK the interviews may be a little more intense, but the rest of the events are laid back. I think a lot of people have a vision of NYC being cold and people not being friendly, but the student and administrative bodies here are really wonderful. And you're right about the competition. We try to not push an overly competitive atmosphere, but there's still enough friendly competition that you always want to do better. I can't say anything about other east coast institutions as I haven't been around their programs, but I can say that you can be pretty confident in a good experience.
  4. Yeah, unfortunately Mount Sinai has quite early interview slots so they no longer release invitations in waves. They've changed their interview process and timing pretty significantly in recent years in a bid to be more competitive with top tier institutions. I can say that if you attend the interview, you will see they will really try to make you feel at home. Not that other programs don't, maybe I'm a bit biased
  5. I believe all interview invites have been sent out by Mount Sinai.
  6. Yeah. It's definitely super depressing to see other people getting interview and then not even getting an update email, but I think it's important to just remember that there's time and deadlines are specific to schools. Even more specifically, programs. Again, good luck to everyone!!!
  7. Congrats on interviews everyone! Just wanted to say that everyone here is super supportive and really nice, we definitely more of that in academia. For those of you still waiting, don't worry! It's still relatively early, we have time until the end of December! Don't lose hope. Have a glass of wine (or whatever your indulgent choice is) and relaaaax (I know, not possible). You gotta enjoy the days you have left before trading your life to research
  8. Congrats! Do you know if they're releasing interviews in waves/did you have to do a phone/skype interview first?
  9. Congrats! Super anxious now hahaha
  10. Thank you for the reassuring words! Apparently I'm out of reputation to give for today whaaat. But +1 for you heh.
  11. Is it pretty normal not to hear back after replying to interview invitations? A couple interviews of mine asked me to respond and fill out a survey, but haven't sent any follow up information. Also totally aware that it's super hectic for them, so I may just be getting impatient and paranoid that they didn't get my emails and I'll miss the interview
  12. I believe for the non-neuro programs, they have two "weekends." For neuro, there is only one. I posted dates in the interview weekends thread!
  13. It's more relaxed than previous years I believe, they got rid of revisitation. I think they'll be doing an escape room thing and supposedly a crazy dinner. Congrats fellow Chicago-er
  14. Just got my interview invite for Sinai! Good luck everyone and congrats to everyone else so far!
  15. Congrats! Sinai has a fun second day of interviews this year
  16. I think I developed a Pavlovian fear/anxiety response to my phone's email notification...it's still so early too
  17. No, but they should be sometime this week! Good luck!
