How is everyone doing? Please weigh in:

1 = super calm with your decision

5 = torn, in the middle, undecided

    10 = FREAKING OUT

I went to bed a 2 and woke up feeling about an 8!

This may be the hardest decision I've ever made...

Probably at a solid 7. I put in a deposit at my backup school. The school I really want to go to I also put a deposit in at but they said they can't let me know about funding until after April 15th so I have no idea what I'm doing lol. I'm on the waitlist for a graduate assistantship.

Just got off the waitlist at Minot State! This was my first acceptance, so I'm really excited. They had told me they would begin pulling from the waitlist beginning April 15th, but it looks like slots opened up earlier than that. They gave me a deadline for April 15th to accept.

    Congratulations that's so exciting!!!

Agreed, the other school I got into is also super expensive. However, the tuition is slightly slower than my other school which with the cost of living makes it about equal.

So I'm leaning towards it until I know about waitlists. I'd like to figure out how much it would be to commute.

    Also congrats to you too!

I also feel like having a car in Boston, going to clinical placements every day, would be really stressful for me. I'm leaning toward a school with in-state tuition and a suburban setting instead. But I'm just too curious about what this scholarship involves lol. She's calling me in about an hour so I guess I'll find out soon!

No, but I planned on emailing the coordinator this evening about funding. This is a major factor in my decision and I'm honestly nervous about paying for this program.

How did you know you got it?

And my deadline is the 27th for them but I have another school with a 15th deadline.

I emailed Lorraine Book two weeks ago and she just emailed me today telling me that I received this scholarship. She said she wanted to call me but I kind of wish she just told me the details via email. So I definitely recommend emailing her asap lol

  5. Has anyone else received a Dean's scholarship to Northeastern? I am supposed to receive a call tomorrow to learn more about it. I tried searching online but it is hard to find information related to graduate scholarships. They're really cutting it close to the April 15th deadline and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to make a good decision.

    Hi everyone!

This is my first post here. I was accepted to the program I wanted and was placed on the waitlist for a TA-ship. I have been following up with the grad advisor and the professor in charge of the TA program but so far no luck. I know their deadline to hear back from those who were accepted is April 15th. Is it likely that I may hear something around that time if anyone has decided not to accept their spot? In other words, does anyone have any insight on how waitlists work? I am moving across the country to attend this school so I'm kind of going nuts about funding. I was awarded financial aid but obviously I would much rather get my tuition waived. Any thoughts/encouragement/advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

I feel like I'm in the same boat. I decided to put 2 different enrollment offers down. The school I am on the waitlist for funding said they won't know more until after April 15th. I can't afford to go without the funding so if anything, I also have a deposit at my backup school. So nervewracking. Best of luck to you!

They actually emailed me today offering an assistantship and said a letter should be arriving in the mail soon! I will likely be accepting the offer. I had emailed them a couple of days ago asking about assistantships, and they said I was second on the wait list. If you email and ask, I'm sure they will tell you where you are on the list as well! I hope you hear some good news soon!!

Congratulations!! That must be such a relief to hear back. I'm actually 6th on the waitlist so I feel like it could really go either way. Best of luck to you!

Just chiming in, but I didn't hear back about an assistantship- on the results page someone said they had sent out 11 offers and those people had 2 weeks to decide. When I was emailing the department, they said I was still being considered for one, but I decided I didn't want to keep waiting and holding my seat. So I declined my offer. I really love the location and I think the program is a good one, but like you I just couldn't afford it without a GA position.

Right, I'm still hoping to hear back about the assistantship hopefully early next week. Where are you planning on going instead?

That's such a confusing position to be in! What at Redlands would cause you to graduate so late? A delayed graduation would be a real downer, but if I were in your position, I would still try to stay as close to home as possible.

My situation is Alabama and Montevallo being the cheaper, in state options at roughly 24-26k tuition for the whole program. The main thing that concerns me is that I'm hoping to move up north after graduate school and I'm concerned I won't be able to build strong connections out of state, as their externships and placements seem to be mostly local. If it were between the two of them, I would probably go with Alabama because of their research related to pediatric dysphagia and infants in the NICU, which I'm very interested in. The main thing that concerns me about Alabama is their low employment rate. https://cd.ua.edu/welcome/accreditation/caa-accreditation-data/ I would need to inquire about why it's so low compared to Ithaca https://www.ithaca.edu/gradprograms/slpa/outcomedata/, Montevallo http://www.montevallo.edu/arts-sciences/college-of-arts-sciences/departments/communication-science-disorders/student-outcome-data/, and UMass https://www.umass.edu/sphhs/sites/default/files/SLP Program Statistics_17.pdf

I feel that UMass would be the best fit for me because of its location (relatively close proximity to Boston and NYC) and their emphasis on research especially research related to neurogenic disorders. But their tuition, at nearly 80k????? (what the heck) for an out of state student makes it completely out of the question unless they come through with some funding (highly unlikely).

Which leaves me with Ithaca, which I'm very drawn to because of their externship opportunities (many different cities all across the United States, including NYC!! [goals]), and their seemingly very well-rounded program. Also, I'm very attracted to the idea of living in Ithaca in general. I feel like it's a town I would fit in well in, and it seems to have activities and amenities that cater to my interests, more so than any of the other towns I'd be moving to. (Plenty of outdoor activities, decent music scene, farmers markets, WINE TRAILS, etc.) The only drawbacks would be the insane amounts of snow (which I honestly feel I can get over, especially since I'd be going back down south during Ithaca's month-long winter break) and the lack of emphasis on research within their program. Their tuition is around 40k for the program, but there's also the possibility of receiving an assistantship. Plus I don't think 40k tuition would be outrageously unmanageable, but it's still nearly double the cost of my in state options.

    Whew. That was long. haha

I'm also really interested in Ithaca. Have you heard anything back about assistantships? I don't think I could afford to go there without it. I love the area and think they have a great program for a lot of different interests though. It's important for me to get a bunch of experience in different areas because I'm not sure where I would want to work in the future.

  10. They seem to have a lot of great clinic opportunities both on and off campus. It is a smaller program so there is not emphasis on research. But, I like the idea of a small sized cohort group. Also, your last semester, you can choose to do your clinical experience anywhere in the country so long as you get approval. Ithaca is also a great town with a lot to do whether it be hiking, eating, or shopping. For the teaching track, they require you get experience with all age groups. I'm really interested in this program but could never afford to go without an assistantship. What other schools are you looking at?

Joining the rant because I'm also going insane!! TC is a dream for me. Through my stalking, I found out their school was closed due to inclement weather this week, so maybe that pushed them back!

Yeah New York had crazy weather last week! I just got my Ithaca acceptance and it was dated March 12th so I think there are some delays with everything. Driving me crazy! In the past TC acceptances have already been sent out by email by now. I read on the results page they came around 5pm so maybe today?? I definitely think this week. Good luck!

I stalked the results page for a few years back, and every year TC has released decisions before or during spring break. They are on spring break right now so it has been driving me insane that we are not hearing anything! According to their academic calendar offices will be closed tomorrow so I doubt we will be hearing anything until next week.

Personal rant: wherever I decide to go basically hinges on whether or not I get accepted to TC so it is extra frustrating to not know where I stand. Whatever the decision is, I just want to know so I can move on! Ugh.

Thanks for the info! I thought for sure we would've heard from them this week based off last years results page. I think the blizzard must have caused some setbacks for all the NY schools. Hopefully early next week!

  13. Is anyone still waiting on schools in New York? I can't wait to hear back from Ithaca College and Columbia Teacher's College. I have seen a lot of people post that they've heard back already from Ithaca from the past couple weeks so I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing for me. Best of luck to everyone!

Did anyone else receive their e-mail of missing pre-reqs today? I was basically 90% positive I was going to commit to this program but now I found out they want me taking 11 credits of pre-reqs (speech sound disorders, fluency, educational psych, and a chem/physics) , which would add on an extra semester of school. I am very disappointed, especially being that I completed my undergraduate degree in communication disorders and never thought I would have to be required to take four extra courses in grad school.

I also got accepted into st. rose but there are 4 additional pre-requisite courses I would have to take. I'm likely not going to accept this offer for that reason and hope other schools won't have as many pre-reqs.
