Thanks a lot! I became very excited again about Cornell. Do you have any clue when decisions are made? -

Thanks a lot - I appreciate it! I am also glad to hear that despite being located in rural New York, you would recommend it as a place for study. How would you explain the low student intake (1-2 people)? Do you think it's due to certain constrains (funding) or because few applicants accept offers at NES, or? -

Hey @_sawyer_, congrats on your acceptance at UT-Austin! What program did you apply for at Harvard? -

Hey @nevermind! Thank you for offering to tell us more about the NES program at Cornell. Any chance you know whether interviews are part of the application procedure -- I have not heard back from them and start to worry ? I would also be interested to know how you experienced the program and life at the Department. Thank you in advance! -
Ha, those lovebirds! But you're right - it is in the Events thread! I guess it's fair to assume it will take place on the 14th. Still the question remains: When can we expect to hear back from them?

Hey! Where did you find the info on NELC department meeting? I can't seem to find it in the calendar http://nelc.fas.harvard.edu/calendar-nelc

Nice, congrats Abdelazar! Who was there to interview?
-
Hey @praxis34! No invitation for me. Good luck to all of you, and hope you are able to execute your PhD under the mentorship that you feel would be most fruitful for you!

Thanks again! The website states, 'Normally we send out invitations to short-listed candidates on the first Wednesday in February,' which means (I suppose) they either sent out invitations last Wednesday (Feb 1) -- or, given Mr LaRegina's email, they will do so on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

Thanks a lot @praxis34! I guess that means shortlisted candidates haven't been formally contacted yet, or I am getting things wrong? Good luck on your apps!

Hey! Just wondering if anyone has heard back from any of the major NES/NELC/MES departments, and if Princeton has already sent out invitations?

Princeton/ Interview for PhD in NES

To all 2017 NES applicants, has anyone been shortlisted yet? I saw few ambiguous posts in the results overview, not sure what to make of them. Thanks! -
Does anyone else have views on this?

Thanks a lot - very helpful indeed @cabraloca! Good luck on your apps!

Thanks, this is very helpful. Though I am not in a similarly comfortable position, I did receive an email from my friend, who working with two POIs, strongly encouraged me to do so. I am just not a hundred percent sure how to go about this. Should I simply reach out and introduce myself? Should I share my SOP, CV,...? I sort of mention in the SOP why I am interested in their work so it feels bit awkard mailing them and rephrasing my SOP.

Hey Gremlin! Do you have any web links to previous threads on this question?

Like most of us, I was quite busy in the run-off to the submission deadlines and missed out on the opportunity to contact potential supervisors. I was recently in touch with a friend at one of the Politics departments I am applying for, and he strongly encouraged me to contact potential supervisors, even though deadlines have passed. As a student from France, it's not wholly clear what is expected from me. What are your views on this? How should I formulate the letter? Any advice is warmly appreciated, Thank you, F.
