  1. That is true although I'm really surprised that the Polish Fulbright person would not mention that when I asked her what to expect. I put down Intermediate for my language skill and it would make sense for them to see if my Polish actually is that good. I'm really not worried about the language part. @AnnMarie did you still want to practice? I'm still worried about all the political stuff though..."How do you see yourself as an ambassador to Poland?", confused, I support my countries ideals, but whats been going on lately.. >< Also I know that Poland can be pretty conservative so I really don't know what would be the right thing to say!
  2. So apparently this interview is going to be a video conference! Also, I was told by the Polish Fulbright people that the interview would be held in English. Not a thing was mentioned about testing our Polish speaking capabilities. I was told that, " the Academic Committee is going to discuss with you your grant objectives, your motivation for applying for the award, how do you perceive yourself as the Fulbright Grantee/ U.S ambassador to Poland etc. ". Sounds like basic questions. I'm just worried about what the heck I'm going to say if someone asks me about Trump or the general state of politics in America right now...I don't know what to say to anyone about that. What would you guys say? @bluet, what is your project about?
  3. Yes! I got mine as well. Mine is scheduled for the 30th. How about yours? I don't think it will be too bad. Found a current Fulbrighter there and asked her about it and she said it was no big deal so nothing to be scared of! Just be yourself!
  4. Wow! That is quite the caravan you'd be taking with you! XD What a cool experience for everyone! I hope your kids are old enough to benefit from the cultural immersion. What does your husband do? I was hoping my husband would be able to find some sort of remote job to do while we are over there... The logistics involved in the whole Fulbright experience are mind-boggling. At least it sounds like you have a home to keep all your stuff in one place. My husband and I are renting and paying for storage for a year would be too much...not to mention I have no idea where I'll be heading after the Fulbright >< I will be based in Krakow, Poland's cultural center, where the Polish Institute of Botany is located. I'm actually going to be sampling allllll over the country, not just in the Bialowieza forest. Its going to be a crazy adventure! I am specifically studying the mosses that grow on dead wood. There is actually no comprehensive species list for these types of mosses in Poland and little, if anything is known about their ecological preferences and needs making it difficult to protect them. So I will be going all over Poland and seeing what kinds of species I find and what kind of conditions they are living in. Another aspect of my project will be trying to get good photographs of these species, since there isn't much moss photography out there, and getting people to be more knowledgeable and appreciative of mosses. Thank you for your interest in my project! It depends what country you are going to. On your country's fulbright page it should specify whether dependent support is available. Also, if you did not say that you were bringing a dependent with you in your application, it might be too late at this point to receive dependent support. I'm not sure about the visa process, of course that would be country dependent. I'm sure there must be some sort category for dependents of students...I have citizenship in the country I applied to so I guess that makes my husband's visa situation simpler...
  5. Your husband isn't coming with you? My husband would be coming with me and would actually be helping me with my research. I guess I am lucky! Being isolated hasn't even crossed my mind. I doubt you'll feel isolated for long though! You hear so many stories of Fulbrighters making plenty of friends during their year and having a great time! You cannot help making friends when community involvement is part of the job description
  6. You've got to start building your relationship with them some time!
  7. YEEESSSSS!!!! TOLD YOU!!! Congrats!
  8. Aaah!! I just got emailed for an interview for my Fulbright back up plan! On the same day! Too much >< I feel so uncomfortable having applied to two different things
  9. You can do it! You've worked so hard for this! And didn't you say that you had plans lined up in case you didn't get it? It will be ok! Its just this crazy scholarship run by a bunch of stuffed shirts anyway!
  10. No, she was quoting someone else! Tell us that you got through @Photogeographic!!!
  11. Grrr! Wish I knew what the interview would be about...Need to find a current or previous Fulbrighter to Poland!!
  12. So we're pretty sure about that interview huh? Yikes! I wonder if its a video call or over the phone I wonder how much time we get to prepare..
  13. Congrats! Maybe we can have coffee in Poland! XD
  14. Lol, we congratulated each other at the same time XD If we make it past the final round we'll be neighbors!
  15. Hey Guys! I made it past the first round!
  16. That explains why it said decisions would be out on the 17th!
  17. That explains why it said decisions would be out on the 17th!
  18. So then the host countries already have all the selected applications? That's so fast! I guess that means less waiting for whoever goes to level 2! I can't wait!?
  19. How's your Fulbright been? Where are you and what are you doing? Any advice for us?
  20. I am just excited. I want to know already! I feel like haven't been able to move on with my life since October 11th!
  21. I guess there is a possibility but, I think the chance of Trump affecting this year's cycle is very small. He's so busy repealing the ACA that if we stay quiet he'll probably not notice until its time to make decisions for next year. *fingers crossed* Trust me, I am not looking forward to a future spent begging for grants, I know how difficult it can be to be in academia in the Botanical world. Thank you for the good wishes! Is your topic scientific as well? That is crazy that your friend was actually interviewed on the news! Honestly, I'm not sure if I could say the right thing in that position. I think many Americans are at a loss to explain how this could have ever happened...the truth is there is a deep rift in the American people, completely different views. But then right-wing governments are on the rise all over the world...what is happening?? Good luck to us all..
  22. Well we know how Trump is ALL about maintaining ties with other countries and encouraging diversity and understanding...:/
  23. LOL, YES! POSITIVE ENERGIES!!! WE WILL ALL BE SELECTED AND HAVE AMAZING EXPERIENCES!
