Direct (external) applicants are given the results, but the (non-Canadian) University is not informed, unless you (the applicant) inform them.
Thank you!

No, since external applicants did not apply through any school, the school would have no way of knowing. We have to notify our universities of our success!
Thank you so much!

Does anyone know if Universities know the results for applicants to applied externally? I applied externally, and indicated on my application which university I intended to study at. I'm just not sure if SSHRC would have notified that University, given that I didn't apply for the SSHRC through the university. Any feedback from external applicants (or anyone who knows) would be appreciated!

Mailman just drove off without delivery in Alberta yet. Anyone else in AB waiting?

I emailed the graduate head of my department. I got the 4-year fellowship. She knew on Friday. Wish she'd let us know!
Congrats! Were you a self-applicant? The reason I ask is that I was a self-applicant, and am wondering then if my department would even know of my result. Hope you get to celebrate now!

Tell me about it!!

I called the Awards Office at the Faculty of Grad studies at my university this Friday to ask if they'd received the results. She carefully skirted around the answer and said it would be more "fun" for me to find out by "snail mail". (note: I didn't give her my name, so I can't even play with the possibility that by fun, she means I may have been successful). Oh my. Looks like I'll be waiting in anticipation for a little longer with a few others here!

My guess is that it's going to be at least another 2 weeks before we know.
Also, at least at my Uni, the students will know before the department. (At least, this what I've been told--and what happened last year.)
I think you're right. I'm hoping for the week of the 24th. I think that's around the same time people started hearing back last year. Fingers crossed that we at least hear back before May

Admittedly, I've been stalking the mailman through my window for the past half hour. As soon as he left my doorstep, I grabbed the letter from SSHRC. Looks like mine will be forwarded too! In the letter, it stated that this year, there were 534 direct applicants, and 251 applications were forwarded to the national committee. Best of luck to everyone!

oh gosh, thank you for this! i'm trying very hard not to read too much on this forum, on past years threads, etc., because it's bad for my anxiety, but the result is that I'm sort of confused about timelines??? which is maybe better than stress from knowing when exactly something happened last year, but also maybe isn't. Ha! Application season is a bundle of fun.
Anyhow, thanks for the clarification! Good luck re: your application!Best of luck to you as well!

I applied but as a direct entry applicant so I'm not sure if the notification process is different.... But I haven't heard anything at all (mail or email!), so that's probably bad news.
I also applied as a direct applicant. I don't think there is any bad news this early on! My understanding is that both direct and via university applicants won't know if their applications have been forwarded/recommended for 'round two' until late February. I think that applicants who say their applications were recently forwarded mean that their universities decided to forward their applications to SSHRC. So direct applicants and via university applicants should be at a similar stage in the process now (i.e., applications are physically sitting somewhere in the offices of SSHRC), and we should all start to find out if our applications make it to round two by the end of February.
This is my first time applying, so I may not be accurate! This is only what I have gathered from reading the SSHRC website, and through reading feeds from previous years.

Still nothing in Alberta! Just hoping that I will hear back tomorrow! Waiting an entire weekend would be extremely painful.
