  1. Yeah, neither have I. That explanation seems plausible. Perhaps it's also related to administrative/financial constraints whereby GSAS has stated they will reduce "admissions slots" (e.g. Harvard GSAS this year). A bit in poor taste for an informal notice to be sent before confirmation though. I could only imagine what that'd be like although (even) presumptive Yale admits are bound to have numerous alternatives methinks.
  2. Feeling super anxious about Yale! Anyone else thinks it's weird acceptances albeit informal going out over the weekend...hoping it's just some enthusiastic POIs courting their most desirable admits. Perhaps there will be more to come on Monday. Also, did anyone note the post on the results page from a Religious Studies (Yale) candidate who claims he or she was "recommended" for admission but ultimately rejected by GSAS? Could be a troll or do folks think there's any truth to GSAS having more autonomy/oversight at certain institutions?
  3. Hm, so IR & Comparative decisions may be (going) out for Yale now... #deductive reasoning
  4. Not sure if folks have heard the news but it looks like things just got more competitive over in Cambridge: https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/2/13/fas-reduces-graduate-admissions/ No idea on what this will look like for individual departments but 4.4% at an already ultra-competitive program is pretty high.
  5. lol sorry but it's a bit of a dirty secret among gs tigers owing no doubt to Princeton's lack of professional schools. I think the school attracts a cloistered kind of intellectual and because of the comparatively large ug population, there are very limited options. I also found during my residence in the graduate college where I passed many a night (perhaps too many) in the D-bar that many doctoral students from all depts come directly from college. Social awkwardness abounds.
  6. ditto on the Princeton rejection...luckily i was able to obtain a fee waiver Hoping this rejection isn't a harbinger of things to come and my cycle. Disappointed, but not devastated. I wasn't exactly keen on spending the next 5+years of my life in the hinterland of NJ, plus having completed my masters there I didn't find the romantic prospects particularly enticing while I was there. No shade to admits. It's a truly world-class institution with superior resources in nearly all regards, excellent alumni etc. My reasons are probably more shallow than most. Additionally, I'm happy to provide info to any inquiring minds who were recently admitted. I graduated in 2015 as a Woo so lots of overlap with various departments (literally Corwin is connected to Robertson, making for a convenient little shortcut when the weather invariably turns foul) More pro-tips per request.
  7. I agree it is rude for programs not to give applicants the courtesy of a rejection, especially given application fees...it's not exactly like they're working for free. Anyway, it's my first time posting here so I'll be brief: I, too, was a bit disappointed and surprised not to receive "informal acceptance" from Princeton yesterday, but I think there's a reason auto-rejects don't post immediately...GS admins could override or DGS could have a change of heart or "priority" as they pertain to institutional diversity initiatives. As a Princeton alumnnus (masters) and URM, I can speak from experience that URM representation is exceptionally poor among doctoral students specifically, not just at Princeton but nearly everywhere. I'm still looking forward to hearing from other places however and wish much success and happiness to all recent admits. Congrats you earned it!
