  1. Ah, thanks!
  2. Updated PGR? Is there a newer one than the 2014-2015 version?
  3. How I feel while waiting to hear from three-quarters of the places I applied:
  4. First off, 162Q and 5 Writing are absolutely fine and are more likely to help than hurt at most places. At some schools, especially top 20s, 163V is a bit low (strong philosophy PhD applicants just murder verbal). However, some committees do not care about GRE very much at all. In general it's less important than grades, sample, and letters, maybe roughly as important as personal statement. 3.7 GPA is a bit lower than ideal. If your GPA over the last two years was significantly higher, try to highlight that fact. If your writing sample is really really good, you can still get in just about anywhere with your scores. But it might make sense to target unranked programs strong in your specialty or programs around 30-50 in the PGR rankings, depending on the rest of your app. Best of luck! P.S. There is a very long discussion of the relevance of the GRE in the Philosophy forum here; you may find that helpful.
  5. They told me I would get an official offer letter at some point, but I haven't yet. Seems like they're doing it in many stages I guess? Sorry, wish I had more info for you. :/
  6. ENHANCE
  7. jealous you beat my GRE my friend
  8. They fully fund everyone for 5-6 years. A professor told me over the phone the fellowship is kinda a long-shot: it's university-wide, so I bet it's rare for even one philosophy student to win it.
  9. I don't think so, since I got notification of the fellowship in a personal email, but no official offer letter. Also, it was February 20th last year, right?
  10. Looks like you'll have a decision to make this time! Congrats!
  11. Minor correction for the blog: CU Boulder sent me notice of acceptance on February 13th, so their first notification was no later than that.
  12. I'm pretty sure they only contacted people who were nominated for the fellowship, so I think there will be more emails going out later. I don't think it was even an official offer email; it just said I had been admitted with full funding, mentioned the fellowship nomination, and said they wanted to talk over the phone, basically. Specific funding details were not given. I think they just wanted to see if I was already not interested (on the contrary I am quite interested!).
  13. I am not the one who reported, but I was also accepted to Boulder with a potential fellowship! I concealed it from GradCafe because I was going to wait for the general wave so as not to distress people who hadn't been contacted yet. There was minimal info in the email though; just that I got in and might get a fellowship, basically.
  14. haha, yeah, SJC Annapolis '13 alum. I said "profs" to avoid confusion, but technically we call them "tutors." We read a lot of philosophy there, but unfortunately for PhD applicants, the major is "Liberal Arts," and a lot of the tutors don't have Philosophy PhDs.
  15. I wrote about whether we should accept the Repugnant Conclusion. I'm guessing that or my letters might have been weak (the profs at my alma mater are not too well known). Your GPA and GREs look strong as well. Good luck!
  16. hah, thanks! I probably got overconfident after my GRE though; wish I had applied to some more programs around 40-50. Well, dum spero, spiro.
  17. I think I also shot too high, with only 2 programs far outside the PGR Top 20 despite my unusual undergrad experience (Great Books instead of traditional philosophy major). ? Ah well, if I get shut out at least I'll have learned something.
  18. haha, you shouldn't have told me that...I was going to lay off gmail today >_<
  19. Rejected from Chicago! Hey, at least now I know my gmail account is working normally
  20. Great work, congrats!
  21. Good luck! I am hoping pretty hard for Virginia to send me some good news soon.
  22. lmao, thank you for this
  23. Fair enough; I said that without actually counting. I guess Arizona and UVA are already giving me anxiety.
  24. Applied to eight schools, most of which have accepted people by now. Have heard nothing. I am right with you!
  25. I ~want~ to but it's not mine
