  1. Daedalus, This really seems to separate the mice from men, the schools that do not require teaching every semester and cap classes. Thanks for the info. I think it makes me more anxious about my waitlist at tufts. Grrr. Thanks again. b
  2. Hadunc, I called and spoke to just a darling (not) helpful (not) woman named Peggy who politely (not) informed me that while all letters would be going out today and tomorrow, they "didn't have to send out anything until April 15." I thought, No, sweetheart, that's when your taxes are due." Seriously? I should be grateful that she learned how to manage a mailmerge before April 15? I hope they lose their best candidates.
  3. I hear you, but my sense is that here in CU, they do not combine the Phd with the MA for the sole purpose of taking every penny they can from the MA student. I got not scholarship one from my Colorado graduate program. I got a TAship, but they didn't even waive or rebate tuition.
  4. Just wondering about how people feel about Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL/WashU). Seems like there are some pretty good Americanists there, but I don't know a ton about the program. Anyone accepted and declining, and if so, can you tell me why? Trying to figure out how long I should wait, what my chances are, and anything I should know about this program. And apparently I cannot type this late in the night, because I had to edit this twice just to fix typos...
  5. Sigh. I am a PhD app. I finished my master's in denver. I have a 4.0 and an 800 on the gre, and no call. I am totally fricken bummed. Keep me posted, and good luck. Colorado is pretty crappy on funding, so hopefully you will get some dollars...
  6. OK, I just logged back on and it does say in review - this was not there before. I got a call from another school tonight where I am waitlisted. he said that the budget limits was throwing "all of north america into chaos" this application season. I can understand not being able to make more offers than they have space, and the waitlist process, but the few admits I saw at CU were not enough. Seriously? Like they can't just do something rational, like contact all of their admits? Even if I am rejected, I just need to know I know, I know, impatient. Like all of us here...
  7. Hadunc, I can't even figure out any place on their online system to track my application status! Their online resources seem a little deficient for a top tier school. I am desperate to find out about my app to CU. I own a home here and can't sell it, and although I have some other offers, not getting into CU would thoroughly disrupt my life. I am thankful for choices, but can't decide if I should call because I am afraid of preempting a rejection (I know that's just paranoid but still) and I can't find any info. Where are you seeing "In Review" ?

    Fordham

Well, I am definitely considering Fordham, and am also an Engl PhD, but my focus is Southern Female American Authors and Ekphrasis. I hear Stony Brook has more American lit faculty. I think I will peruse a bit more. I visited over the break - the campus was beautiful, library amazing, neighborhood was densely populated diverse Bronx, so if that's not your kind of thing you may want to be more particular about housing. Fordham has been my first choice for some time, but I am considering Stony Brook now...
  9. Tufts waitlisted me, and I can't see any funding info. I can give a lot of funding package info because I completed a buttload of apps and tracked that info, but here is what I have so far (this would be for a student entering with an MA and teaching experience, I presume. Miami: 20K WashU in St. Louis 18.8k (and you do not have to WORK AT ALL FOR 3 SEMESTERS) Tufts: ? Fordham 18.8k Stony Brook 15.6 k Northeaster 15.6 K
  10. Ok hopeful getting the hang of this now At least getting the name right. Northeastern asked that I respond by March 15, as I believe that they will be making a second round of offers. I live in Denver, and I am really unfamiliar with these east coast schools, but all of my west coast apps went kaput in a big way. The size of the program, etc. These are things I should probably be asking. I really need a mentor. I just sit frozen waiting for the next rejection or (less likely) acceptance. I am the one who posted to you about Stony Brook and Fordham - I thought Fordham had some really interesting Americanists - a Flannery OConnor expert, etc. I too am an americanist, looking at southern female authors. I guess I better look more carefully.
  11. Yeah, I hear you. I re-wrote that post like five times trying to NOT sound like a jerk, but I guess it failed. I understand that this is the most brutal of all application seasons. I do hope you have some choices - I thought on your profile you did, but anyways, if you feel like responding great and if not please know I am sorry for the abrupt post.
  12. I can claim the acceptance on the board to Northeastern. If you want to know how I approached this season, I did a four tier app process with several schools in each tier. My "safeties" were Miami and UNLV (Las Vegas). I had a lot of help from my boyfriend, who is an English professor. He helped me identify schools, I prepped my faculty, and I worked my ass off. I made sure to mention faculty in every SOP, and I applied to 16 schools. I have good recs and a really crazy good academic record, but my publishing and writing is a bit weak. So far, I am 4 yes's, 4 nos, and two waitlists, but frankly, the six remaining all seem to be no's, in which case I will have had 4/16. I should say I turned in this app early. What a horrible academic season. Fingers crossed for everyone.
  13. Espresso, Do you like Stony Brook over Fordham? If so, can you tell me why? I am trying to decide between them for a PhD in lit.
