For those of you who are in Draft, are there many notifications that haven't been posted on GradCafe yet? I'm trying to get a sense of how many decisions have gone out already. Thanks!

Hardly, it seems. I only recently joined the group but it looks like people are updating much more over here, and I think many get nervous about posting their rejections when their names are generally attached (Facebook etc). In the last couple days I haven't seen anything on Draft not make its way here also

  2. Love this topic. I have many (visible) tattoos and am saddened that anyone who'd like them would have to forgo them for the sake of a career. Luckily I'm in the arts/humanities and even beyond academia wherever I go won't likely be discriminated for them. Though there's something awfully cool about the idea of an accountant with a Rock of Ages back piece or something.

Energy drinks (i.e. monster drink, etc). I never understood why so many of my college friends drank them copiously (I personally have never tried any Monster drinks, and I don't really plan to).

    Seconded.

Also, re: beverages, I don't get the appeal of the iced (sweetened?) teas at Starbucks. Are they like Italian sodas or something? If I have to go to Starbucks I'm only shelling out for coffee.

  4. @badeyebrows misery loves company?

@ficpic89 I wonder how many people actually get phone calls. I spent too much time looking at last year's results and it seems rejections come via mail late February/early March, waitlists via email, acceptances mostly by phone. But they take such a relatively large number of people...so who's to say?? :(

Your goal with prep is to train your mind for a slightly different kind of thinking.

Just got to think in The Way of the Exam...I remember this from the high school days, nervous out of my mind about the SAT. I've not yet had to take the GRE but should this application season go terribly wrong (applied to 13 schools for creative writing MFA, with 11 still to hear from) I'm going to take the GRE and reapply in the next season to other MFAs and also English/rhetoric MA/PhD programs, I think. So...trying to be prepared.

P.S. - All the advice in this thread is really helpful. Especially all from @OhSoSolipsistic too! Thank you!

Sometimes it just takes awhile to get approved. It's probably nothing personal. The Draft administrator is busy with grad school, AWP, etc.

Thanks, @Hortense. Didn't think it was personal, really...I'm just looking for lame new things to get worked up about (and there are clearly so many things)

  7. Oh, dear. I've just spent the last hour combing through the 2016 results posts. This weekend was relatively low-stress until I saw that Iowa fiction acceptance; I've just been casually, comfortably hacking at current coursework.

(Separately: why won't they let me into Draft???? That blindness hurts almost as much as the not-knowing w/r/t these other eleven schools)

  8. Hey, I've been following these forums for ages and finally caved, made this account. I've requested but not been let into Draft (yet?) but dying to see what's over there, too.

I'm a fiction applicant waiting to hear from eleven schools still (rejected by Ohio and Arizona already). Got outside today. Will try not to check email over the weekend because I know it's useless. Godspeed, everyone.
