  1. Unfortunately I don't know much about either school but what a wonderful dilemma for you to have-congratulations and best of luck! If you have any special interest in domestic violence, I know Dr. Peter Jaffe (a "guru" in this area) teaches at Western and that would offer an incredible learning opportunity if this is an area you'd like to learn about.
  2. I was wondering the same thing Jaylynn-I'll be starting there in May for the advanced standing program and I am really excited! Are you all set to start there too?
  3. To those waiting to hear back from Windsor, there's been an administrative shift at the University and I'm not sure if/how this will affect decisions being released. There is a new secretary at the graduate studies office who just began within the last week. I asked if future inquiries should be directed to her and she stated she would be in that role for the next year. Nancy St. Onge was the former secretary and now it's Cindy Banks. I've already been accepted into the advanced standing program there so I don't know much about when the 2 year applicants will be notified. Good luck to those waiting to hear back and congratulations to all who've been accepted.
  4. I'd suggest not mentioning the schooling at all unless they ask you directly, which probably isn't likely; hopefully you'll hear back from Laurier before you hear from the potential employer. If you receive a job offer, advise them you'll let them know within 24 hours as you have a couple offers to consider. At that point I'd call the school, advise them of the situation, ask if they can give you any updates. If not, try and get a decision timeline from them, and share that info with the potential employer. Good luck and all the best! Hope everyone's waiting ends soon with a positive outcome ?
  5. Hey Andy-my friend and I were accepted into Windsors advanced standing program February 13th-wasn't sure if you were just referring to the 2 year program though. I have definitively accepted their offer (due to location it's the only program I applied to) but my friends' ability to attend is still up in the air ☹️ Best of luck to you!
  6. Hey Jaylynn-congrats on accepting your placement at Windsor! Do you know anyone else attending the program? I'm curious on the demographics of the students enrolled in the advanced standing program. I currently work part time in the field (with victims of domestic violence who have family court proceedings) but I graduated with my BSW in 1999. Are you currently working full time in the field?
  7. Congratulations! Is that your first choice? Will you accept that offer before hearing back from Windsor? I'm curious because I will be attending Windsors advanced standing program in May and am wondering if anyone else from this thread will be as well.
  8. Can anyone suggest best field placements for someone who has a passion for child protection and play therapy, violence against women and has considerable experience in family court? I am currently a family court support worker (for the past 4 years) and I have 6 years past experience with Children's Aid so I wouldn't do a placement there; wondering about getting into the Office of the Children's Lawyer, Victim Witness Assistance Program, maybe something in the field of collaborative divorce. Not sure if those options take MSW placements though. Thanks!
  9. Congrats on the entrance scholarship jaylynn-just curious-did you apply for it or it came automatically with your offer of admittance?
  10. Focus on your social work journey in the year ahead Linda. Who knows what situations, opportunities or experiences are waiting for you, that may significantly impact where you want to do your masters, what your focus area of study should be, etc etc. I believe the universe has impeccable timing in having things line up for us the way it should. It maybe helpful to ask U of T for feedback on your application, consider applying to different schools next year, consider your reference choices carefully and if your GPA is a concern for you, consider writing your GRE test (graduate records examination test) this is a way to demonstrate academic aptitude separate from your gpa/university transcripts. Hope this helps. Take care and all the best.
  11. Hey Jaylynn-I know Windsors advanced standing program begins in May. From May thru to end of August, students are in class generally one day a week-the odd time it may be necessary to attend twice a week. From September to December classes run 3 days a week. Final term (Jan-May) you have placement 4 days a week, and this can be done back in your home city. I was accepted into Windsors advanced standing program on feb 13, my friend was accepted feb 14 but I know some acceptances and rejections were sent out 5 days before I heard. good luck to all waiting to hear back-hope the waiting game is over soon for you guys! Wishing success to all on their social work journey, with or without an acceptance this year! anyone else accepted an offer from Windsors advanced standing program or waiting to hear from them?
  12. Hi Linda. My cousin has a BSW and did the advanced standing MSW program at Windsor 2 years ago. She was able to do a hospital placement at Bluewater Health in Sarnia (the city she was living in while doing the MSW program at Windsor.) I'd presume Windsor has placements at their local hospitals as well but i can't say that for certain. She did not have any inside connection with our hospital before doing her placement there. Hope this helps. Take care and all the best-everyone has a unique experience and skill set that distinguishes them from others-things will line up for you when the time is right.
  13. Hey jaylynn-I'd do exactly as you suggested-accept the offer you received and go on the wait list for your top choice school. If they both have September start dates, you'll have time to adjust things if your waitlist turns into an acceptance offer. If one school is Windsor starting in May and your top choice is a September start, I'd call the school and ask when those on the wait list will have final decisions by; let them know their school is your top choice but time is of the essence as Windsor begins in May. All the best and take care! Any others attending Windsors advanced standing this May?
  14. My friend and I were both accepted into Windsors advanced standing program. I found out Monday and she was notified Tuesday I have already accepted the offer and my friend is trying to sort out her finances We were notified via email to login to our eGAS account. All the best to those still waiting to hear back...this program begins in May so they may send out acceptances earlier than the schools that have a September start. Hoping you all receive some positive decisions asap. Good luck!
