I'm graduating with my MA this may and I'm doing my comps. i don't know how this plays out at other programs, but basically my comps will be a 90 minute oral exam that will cover all of the classes I've taken (10) over my program. I'm kind of at a loss of how to study for this thing. Any suggestions?
For my recent acceptance the program coordinator actually straight up asked me about other offers I had in order to lobby for more funding for me (the base stipend is basically too low to live on, you could do it... but not well). If your program tends to the low side of stipend (under 13/14K I would say) then they expect you to negotiate. What I've been told is treat this like a job offer--if you were applying to a job they usually ask you for what salary you are expecting or looking for at some point.
My top choice is University of Florida--has anyone heard from them? I've gotten one acceptance (Illinois State) and one rejection (University of Colorado) and I'm on the edge of my seat waiting to hear more.
I'm concerned about the Gainesville housing prices. My stipend for my program is max 11,200 per annum. Is there housing I can even remotely afford? If not: What am I supposed to do with such a low stipend?
