  1. I have a bit of a different scenario. I've been a huge sports fan my entire life, and I was really into my undergrads decent mid-major basketball team (no football), and won't forget how upset I was my Freshman year when we were blown out of the water in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to a team I vowed to hate for the rest of my life, a game I saw in person after traveling 3000 miles to Sacremento. Four years later here I am at that school, and am ready to start cheering on a new team. Life's funny that way.
  2. I never said "clearly dominated" or anything to that effect whatsoever. I don't have a problem with you disagreeing with me, I'm just posting what I derived from talking to people both programs who stated their programs strengths. Feel free to disagree with what I say - I just ask that you don't mischaracterize what I said.
  3. Trying to avoid Undergrad Senioritis

  4. I don't think they take Analytical portion into too much consideration, and they would see your score anyways wouldn't they? 3.0 isn't too terrible, especially since you have a great quantitative score which is what really counts.
  5. I looked into both, and am going to be going to GPED in the fall at Vanderbilt. From the research I've done and everything I've heard, it really depends on what you want to do. If you want to go private sector, Michigan is a better choice although Vanderbilt is still alright, especially if you want to concentrate in financial economics. If you want to go Public Sector or return to China after your degree, Vanderbilt is your better option. Hope this helps.
  6. I got my undergrad degree from Elliott School. Loved it. Grad Program is run by Amb. Inderfurth who is an awesome guy and I was lucky enough to take a class with him. Grad School is highly regarded, Gtown is better but in terms of grad school the difference between the two isn't as much as it is for undergrad.
  7. Just found out yesterday I got accepted into the Masters for Econ program - confirmed I was going there today!
  8. Hey, So right now I'm applying to Vandy for an MA in Econ Development. It is the only school I'm applying to right now, because their application was the only one that I could get in on time before the due date. Long story. What I'm trying to figure out is if I'm accepted (which I believe I will be), should I turn them down and wait a year to apply to other schools for an MA in Econ? I have a 3.79 at a nationally known private school, with a major in International Affairs, minor in Econ (3.88GPA in Econ/Stat/Calc). 530 V 760 Q 6.0 A. Solid letters of rec / SoP. No research done. 3 semesters of Calc, 2 of Stat. What I'm curious though is if I should get into Vandy, is it worth me to defer for a year so I can apply to better schools like Duke/WashU/Yale. Doesn't have to be in Econ Development. I just want to make sure that if I were to defer if I get in, I have a realistic shot at getting into some of those better programs. It's tough to figure out what the standards are for programs, none aside from Duke have posted the median GPA/GRE. I also can't really figure out the heirarchy of programs that well, and which ones are better. Thanks for your help!
