Congrats! UMich Visit would be awesome! As a Chinese student who went to the campus visit last year at UMich, I strongly recommend you going there. I also encountered the same visa problem, however with some helpful suggestions from my seniors and from BBS, I managed to get one. The tip is that you need to make an appointment fist, whether the interview date is after the date of the campus visit. Then, you just write a letter explaining the urgent situation and fax it together with your passport and visa appointment info to the US consulate of Shanghai/Beijing/Guangzhou (depending where you live).
