Necroposting on something from 3 months ago.  I apologize in advance for being late, losing my wallet, running out of gas.

    I hate email. Seriously.

Try this.  Act stupid.  Take the blame.  Tell them both.  Go to both meetings for a while.  Decide which group later.  Stall.

If you're about to make a decision which is going affect the next 5,7,whatever years of your life, it behooves one to do it wisely.

As an old man, I've learned to blame Alzheimer's or that motorcycle accident back in '70 when it's necessary.  I sure wouldn't base some life changing decision on a misunderstood email.

I just feel like humanities students are the most pathetic forms of people. Humanities are easy and pointless and that's why the field is so flooded. Sciences (such as physics) are what really impacts the world and changes things and helps people. What do humanities really do?

The students are pathetic too. They are miserable because they tried to do what they loved but society hated it. Society hates them because they are just writers and 99.9% of writers are pathetic too. Even the Simpsons hates grad students. Those poor grad students, they can't even watch the simpsons to escape their woe!

Idk, I loved humanities and thought they were great but now I realized that I was wrong to enjoy them and that writing, and humanities are bad, their practitioners are pathetic and that sciences are the only way, even if you don't enjoy them, because they are the only way to actually do things.

    Maybe I'm just cynical.

alyss reacted to IvyT in How many days off do u get as a PhD student?
Hi everyone, as I am making my decision I realized that the numbers of days off in PhD really matter to me. I am an international student, in addition I cannot go on for a year without backpacking somewhere. So basically I need at least three to four weeks of holidays (incl. bank holidays) per year.

I know that PTon officially only gives out 19 days (incl. bank holidays) per year (One of the Engin departments), and I really cannot deal with this fact. So I will really appreciate any answers on the numbers of holidays you get as a PhD student, for the following schools:

Princeton, Berkeley, CMU, Cornell, GaTech, Columbia, UC Davis

I will especially appreciate answers from Engin people, since that's what I am going into.

    Thanks!
