  1. Hey all, Im currently trying to decide between SLP and Audiology here in Canada. Obviously there are many things to consider beyond salary when determining whether or not one is suited for a particular career. However, I am interested in knowing whether the pay scale figured of around 70-90K per year (65K for 0-5 yrs experience and ~85K for 10 yrs) is accurate for an Audiologist working in Canada? Thanks everyone
  2. Hi there, If anyone has been accepted to McGill for their counselling psychology MA and or PhD programs, would you be so kind as to pm me or shoot me a reply on this thread? I am very interested in these programs, but I would love the opportunity to discuss them with someone who is experienced with them! Even if you have just applied or are planning on applying, I would be very grateful if I could ask you a few questions! Thanks everyone!
  3. I am planning on becoming a clinical psychologist, but I have very little interest in academia or programs that are highly research oriented. I would prefer my doctorate degree to be as practical as possible and from speaking with a few people here and there, it appears as though a PsyD would be the ideal degree for someone like myself. However, we have very few options for this degree in Canada (and ever fewer are accredited), so I am considering looking into programs in the USA. I have a few Q's tho...: 1.) Is it a common thing for Canadians/Americans to go to the other country to study to become a clinical psychologist? 2.) Would I be stuck practicing in the USA for my life, or could I come back to Canada if I wanted to? 3.) What else should I be considering lol?
  4. Hello Everyone, I am very interested in pursuing a PhD in sociology as I absolutely love academia, especially anything related to sociological work. In my own research that I have done as an undergrad, I enjoy really getting out in the world and experiencing things first-hand. For instance, when I studied homelessness, I spent a few days living on the streets. When I studied bullying in high schools, I spent time in the schools observing and interviewing. So, as you can imagine, I am not much of a theoretical sociologist ahah;) I have mild dyslexia, along with another learning disability, meaning that complicated reading is not exactly easy for me. I can read most things fine, and relatively quickly also. However, when I read theoretical work by authors like Durkheim or Marx, I sometimes have a really hard time following what is going on in the book. When I learn about theory in classes I do really well, but thats because the professor teaches exactly what is being said within the book. Given that (so I am told) during a Masters and PhD one does all of the learning by oneself, I am feeling slightly nervous. I am concerned that my dyslexia will make it hard for me to understand the books I have to read for grad school in order to pass comprehensive exams and things of that sort. Will I still be able to get help and receive clarification about certain readings during my grad school, or will professors expect me to just 'get it' on my own? I suppose I am just wondering if it's possible to get through a masters and PhD with this learning disability? Other than my reading troubles, I am a straight A student and I've always gotten great grades on writing/research related tasks, so at least I have that going for me . Thanks guys:)
  5. What UG and Masters grades would make one competitive for admissions to a PhD program in social sciences such as sociology and anthropology? Would a 3.5+ do the job?
  6. I have a few questions about graduate programs in Cultural Anthro: What kind of marks does an undergrad need to get into a masters program for cultural anth in Canada, the USA or perhaps somewhere else in the world? And then, what kind of masters grades does one need to get into a PhD program? How is the job market for PhD's in anth both inside and outside of academia?
