  1. I did apply, but haven't heard back yet.
  2. Is/has anyone else applied for their grants? I'm working on this now and was wondering if anyone who has successfully applied would be willing to share their application. It's a very limited word count and I'm struggling to make my project description/methods/everything they ask for succinct enough.
  3. Strange, I got that exact email on Jan 20th...
  4. Still waiting for JHU as well. Has anyone here heard anything from them?
  5. I'm also trying to decide between offers. I feel like the POI/fit question is really essential. This is, as mentioned, someone who will have a huge impact on your intellectual, research, teaching and - basically - life development. You'll also be tied to them in some way permanently. If you have any misgivings about a potential POI, heed that. Funding is important, as is location. Is the funding enough to actually survive where the university is located? I was discouraged from applying to a couple of places because the answer to that question was "nope." You won't be able to invest yourswlf fully in your program/research if you have to work 2 jobs just to get by. Grad student culture in the department is important - and grad student culture at that university. You'll need a supportive environment from time to time. Some people do thrive on competition, though, so if that's you then that should also be a consideration. For me, this will come down to POI fit. The other factors are mostly equal. Still going to be a tough decision and I'm trying to take my time making it.
  6. Having applied to 13 programs, I've heard back from 4. It seems like at this point, if I haven't had an interview I'm likely out. It would be really great to know this for a fact, however, because I absolutely hate these moments of hope that I keep having. Just kill the dream already and let me move on with my life. To be fair, I have 2 accepts and 2 rejects, so it's not like everything is useless. I just want to know if my first choice doesn't like me for sure. Sort of like the way you want to know if the person you're really into when you're 12 likes you, like-likes you, or just isn't that into you. This whole process has started to feel very much like middle school crush obsessing to me. Sigh.
  7. Thanks for letting us know. I have not gotten anything, either, so maybe there's still some chance. Possibly. This has been one heck of an application season.
  8. I feel this. My MA thesis is calling but I'm just not picking up. The first draft needs to be completed by March 1st and I'll be shocked if I have even half of it done by then. Hopefully, we both get (good) news next week and can then maybe sort of do some of the work that needs to be done now.
  9. Has anyone applied to Johns Hopkins, or have any idea when we might hear something from them
  10. Same here. A bit disappointed about this one.
  11. Question: has anyone heard anything from U of Michigan yet and not posted on the results page? Or have a colleague who might have heard from them?
  12. Congratulations on the Knight-Hennessy interview! That sounds promising! Good luck to you on that, and the rest of your applications. I'm not sure who it came from, but he said that it was an invite to campus. It was individualized though, so there might be more going out still.
  13. Stanford, too, based on your sig. Looks like we applied to the same programs, as well. A colleague was invited by HASTS, so they have sent invites out.
  14. Congrats! It's good to see the anthro listings starting out the season with an acceptance!
  15. It's so horrifying. Stupid errors! If only I had never seen it and thus not given myself more to obsess over while I wait to hear back... Thank you - good luck to you and let's hope we both get in somewhere despite dumb errors!
  16. Worries: I just found a stupid error in one of my applications. I listed my undergrad degree as "BZ" rather than "BA." Debating whether to email and see if it can be corrected or just "whatever" it and move on. When I inevitably get rejected, I can at least blame it on this error rather than the fact that my SOP is trash-garbage. This will be my second application cycle. After my first, I ended up in a MA program where I rapidly changed course away from the anthropology of religion to medical anthro. While I'm glad this happened, I hope it doesn't make me look like I'm confused. My GRE is a mixed bag of great on the essay and verbal, and really appalling on the quantitative. Math makes me panic, which is why I didn't go into a math-heavy discipline. I hope this does not also make me look confused. Waiting is absolutely killing me. Just tell me I'm a failure now so I can move on with my miserable life, jesus christ. Excitement: Someone who supposedly knows better told me my SOP is not, in fact, trash-garbage. Whether I get into one of the reach schools or not, I am about 98% certain my MA institution will keep me for the PhD. I like my advisor, and would not mind spending more time working with her.
