I am a first year mphil student in tilburg and I think it is a kind of duty to inform you about the facts in Tilburg. Because it caused lots of troubles this year.
First of all, do not believe the guarantee of a paid phd position for a higher average than 8.00. This week on tuesday, the results about phd applications were announced and even some guys with an average of 8.41 were rejected without stating any serious reason. They don not have any funds but just trying to get good students in for cheap. They generally offer a partial scholarship which is around 420 euros/month. Once you come here, they always create problems about fundings and phd positions. More clearly, they have only 10 phd positions for the whole economy department and they accepted more than 10 students for the second year mphil where there were already 25. Please, be careful about the marketing strategy of Tilburg University, especially Center. By the way, if you are planning to use this place as a step to better universities, just forget it. They are trying really hard not to get their own good students accepted. And if you apply for better universities, lets say, top 5 in the states; they even call to tell them not to accept. All they can write for their top placements including finance, accounting, marketing, operations research and economics are those including a post-doc position as a "top placement". Please check this and notice that there is no classifying with respect to year because those are all in the last twenty years.
