  1. That's awesome news! Congratulations!
  2. You know, I've always known about martes 13 but I've never heard about "ni te cases ni te enbarques". Is that a Spain thing? My family is from Mexico so there are quite a few differences in expressions/sayings I guess there's no harm in sharing. I haven't officially accepted through their website but I have already decided to go to UChicago. It was always my top choice . I had also gotten an acceptance at UVa and this week I informed them of my choice. It felt kind of bad though turning them down. I still have to hear from UT Austin and CU Boulder. Although I already made my choice, I will let you guys know the results. Speaking of CU Boulder, I'm presenting at their annual conference next month. With me either getting rejected or turning down an offer, what are the chances of it being awkward?
  3. Congrats!!! What will you be specializing in? MA or PhD?
  4. Hey everyone! I just want to give you all an update. I got a rejection from Northwestern over the weekend. I also received an e-mail from Wisconsin-Madison to set up a time for an "informal conversation" that would lead to admission if it goes well. However, I've already made the choice to attend another school so I turned down the invitation. How is everyone else holding up?
  5. Hola Pacayas and senorbrightside! I just heard back from Michigan today. It was a big fat no. It's totally fine though. Although it's an excellent program, my research interests really didn't line up with the only professor who specializes in the Golden Age.
  6. I'm definitely looking forward to it!
  7. Gracias @senorbrightside! By the way, I love your use of "enhorabuena". It reminds me of one of my professors at my current university . She retired but has returned twice to teach a class.
  8. Congrats to all who've received acceptance notifications! It looks like it's that time now that decisions are being made. Let me contribute to the good news by saying that I just received admission to the University of Chicago . Since I began my applications, I've had my sights on this school but thought it was out of my league. So this is a surprise but definitely well-received!
  9. Hi Liljuliet! The program I heard back from had a Dec. 15th deadline. Another program that I applied to had the same deadline and the website indicated that decisions will be made by mid-February. I definitely is stressful and scary but of the good kind.
  10. That's great news! Good luck!
  11. Thank you! Yes, it is one of my top choices: UVA ?. It's probably my #2 choice, so I'm super excited!
  12. Hello, everyone! I was not expecting this so soon but I was admitted to one of the PhD programs I applied to! I still have to hear back from other programs but that could take a while. Super excited!
  13. Fair enough!
  14. Hi Aleppo! What PhD programs did you apply to (if you don't mind sharing)? I've applied at Northwestern, U of Chicago, U of Michigan, U of Texas at Austin, UVA, and U of Wisconsin-Madison. I have two more applications left to submit (Temple and CU Boulder).
  15. Cool! I'm applying to Colorado-Boulder too. I was looking at their FAQs and it looks like they accept on average 10 students per year. Good luck!
  16. I'm up there with you! I'm applying to 10 PhD programs...I submitted my 6th application today and have 4 more to go. Good luck!
  17. Nice! I considered NYU at some point but decided against it. I don't think the Big Apple would be my cup of tea. Good luck to you!
  18. I see most are stressed, so let me join the club. I've applied to 5 PhD programs so far and have another 5 to go. My main area of interest is the Golden Age and I'm leaning towards theatrical works. I guess I can be the first to reveal some of the places where I'm applying to. I've applied to UChicago, Northwestern, Michigan...
