Who covers the cost of airfare for a Fulbright>? Does it come out of our total grant award?
-
I really don't know why someone would give up the CLEA other than if they couldn't do the Fulbright at all (had a better option, didn't "pass" the health clearance, etc), or maybe if they didn't get into the language program they wanted and didn't plan any other alternatives. I only applied to one program, so if I hadn't gotten into it and all the other approved program's deadlines had passed, I would have had to decline the award. I was thinking more along the lines of a program not working out, or health reasons. Hope this helps! Good luck!
One case would be the State Department's Critical Language Scholarship and the CLEA at the same time.
You are only allowed to accept one of these grants.

Just got an email from Cara Wolinsky for China CLEA awards!
Did the email say you got the CLEA or did is simply state for more information regarding your proposed program?

To all that are rejected, waiting and in purgatory:
Fulbright is not the end. Surely it is prestigious, it is nice to have the structure and it is nice to have the funding.
You can reproduce your own Fulbright. You need about $10,000. You can teach English in most corners of the world and get similar benefits required to sustain yourself.
For pure research, things may be more complicated but not impossible.
Ultimately, for those that were not accepted, think positively; Be independent, it is easier to do your projects with a Fulbright, but you can certainly do the same projects (if not more) on your own. It will be harder, it will be riskier, but you can do it.
Why have someone hold your hand though a year abroad? It is not the end, it is just the more difficult road.

Question for people who received the Fulbright award this year:
I know most people mentioned that their letter came in a large manila envelope. Was this inside of a USPS flat rate envelope?
Thanks guys!
Pooja~
No, it was simply a manila envelope for me.

Questions:
Are the pre-departure orientation expenses covered (airfare, hotel, etc?)
Has anyone heard back from the CLEA (Critical Language Enhancement Award)?
Where can we see an approximate grant stipend for our country? What is the max/min for some countries, just to get an estimate?

Eastern Europe (Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, etc)/ Eurasia (Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, etc) has yet to receive a final notification.
Is my understanding correct that these regions have linked funding, therefore decisions will be made in batches when funding is finalized?
Please promote the link in every post: Final Notification Spreadsheet

Your ticket is "reimbursed"? Meaning that it is separate from the award document your received recently in the mail?
My document states:
"research allowance"
"base amount"
"monthly stipend"
These all add up to a "total award". If I buy a 1,000 ticket, will it be reimbursed separately or will it simply come out of the "total award"
