So I have spent two months trying to decide on where to go to school. I've already eliminated some schools, and now it's down to Johns Hopkins (Applied Math & Statistics) or George Washington (Statistics). The deadline to decide is a little under 3 hours from now.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
George Washington:
-Established first Statistics department in Arts & Sciences
-Has biostatistics center with many research opportunities
-Many job opportunities in DC area (government & private)
-Foggy Bottom is a nice campus
-Faculty with many affiliations in the area
-Half of Masters students are Part-Time
-Approximately 20-25 Masters Students
-Would live in Northern VA and take the metro into campus
-Ranked #48
-$19,000/year
Johns Hopkins:
-One of the best biostatistics departments in the country
-Kind of hard to find research opportunities, competitive
-Only 3-4 Master's students per year
-Both applied math & statistics, lots of courses to choose from
-Good faculty/professors
-Baltimore (right outside of the Hopkins bubble) is not as good of a city
-Living on campus is kind of pricey, walk through Baltimore to class
-Ranked #5 (biostats), #24 (math), #25 (engineering)
-$50,000 per year
No offer of funding from either place.
So is the extra $30,000/year worth the brand name?
