Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of changing your PhD program, specifically if there is any chance of getting into a program that previously accepted you, but you declined (in your infinite wisdom) in order to accept a different offer? I was told I'd have to reapply to this program, but the director seemed positive about the process. Still, I'm concerned. My current program is a bit of a disaster (main professor leaving, teaching load altered, etc.) and I'm not sure if this type of switch would crush my chances of getting into another school. Does this kind of thing ever happen, or am I just nuts? Any thoughts?
Also, does this stuff just look absolutely awful on a CV? Even though the program is revealing itself to be something completely different (in a bad way) from what I was expecting, I'm still unsure that leaving would be the best bet. I feel pretty stuck, so any help would be great.
