I Got exactly same message today .. seems like DAAD scam.. all my friend from reputed institute from India got selected except candidate from local universities or colleges.. DAAD people should mention that applicant from local university or colleges are not applicable.. simple waste of time and energy..  would recommend people from next year if you are from local univ or college .. forget about ur chance .. i have more than 16 publication all above 4 impact factor paper .. percentage since class x is above 85 . 4 years research experince in ICMR govt of India.. WTF more they want from a PhD candidate .. DAAD NOT FOR COMMON APPLICANTS.. EITHER YOUR ADVISORS HAVE GOOD contacts or just dont apply ?

USA applicant here for Study Scholarships for Graduates of All Disciplines- my status changed to rejected and I had a letter in the DAAD Portal. 
Here's some info from my message: "The Selection Committee had to decide between 379 applications and was able to award 65 scholarships." 
That's about a 17% success rate. Of course I'm disappointed, but it was much, much more competitive than I expected, so I'm trying not to beat myself up about it. I didn't go to a prestigious college, and it looks like most of the winners from previous years did. 
On the bright side, I've already been accepted to my top choice Master's program in Germany! I'll be going anyway and funding it myself. I've already applied for a dorm with the Studierendenwerk and everything, so I'm trying not to let this get me down. 
For other USA applicants who's status is "Selection Made"-- viel glück!!!

Gosh! Waiting becomes unbearable 

I don't think "selection made" implies to my selection. I read everywhere that if "selection made" changes to "funding" then only you are selected. "selection made" can be changed to "rejected" as well. I have read in other posts.  And as I have told before that they give out offer in batches, so don't lose your hope yet.

Awards documents have rolled in today for my country applicants, Nigeria. I wish applicants that are still expecting good news success.

At least now I can understand how it feels to wait longer, stay strong!

I have asked DAAD India and they replied to me that "The results will be declared in the 1st week of April. You will get an email through the portal. There have been certain unforeseen delays".
I have never realized before that the pressure of waiting for result can be this worse. I am trying to stay positive. The best of luck to all those waiting for their results.

hey man,, i called bonn just now nad they said that news should have been last week, but there is a delay... and that everybody will be informed in the next cpl of days.. goodluck.

It changed yesterday afternoon. 

Not yet, just that it starts October so according to the change they made in my funding period beforehand 
i am still in the mode that i cannot believe it because no status change at all for all the time and suddenly the email ... 

Wow! Congrats on getting it.

I called then 2 weeks ago and they said I did not get the fellowship, but that was a no official result. Today my status changed to "selection made" and I got the following email (from bonn):
"Unfortunately we are not able to award you with a DAAD research scholarship at this point, since we have a limited budget at our disposal. However, our selection committee did review your proposal favorably and recommended you for funding this year.
 Currently, some extra funds for short-term grants have come available, but we are not sure how they will be allocated. We would like you to know, that there is a chance we can fund your proposal. We hope to know more about the funding situation in the next couple of weeks and will notify you as soon as we can of the final decisions in the DAAD portal.   If you would like to stay in our pool of applicants we don´t need you to do anything, but if you need to withdraw due to other commitments, please let us know.    Thanks for your patience: Also: I will not be able to reply to any Emails from you at this point. Thank you for your understanding!"

When I asked DAAD official in my region, they said that the DAAD official will have a meeting at the beginning of this month. The results will be notified by mid-week of this month to the applicants. All the best to everyone. 

It went okay, I guess. Except for a few awkward questions. My panel had a German Prof from RWTH Aachen ( coincidentally the Univ I have applied to) and an India Prof from Delhi University and a DAAD India representative. The minute I sat down, the German Prof asked me "Why Prof. Beetz and how did you get to know him?" That was easy to answer. Then "Tell us about your research experience". And why this particular topic. And why Germany and RWTH. I felt I answered them quite well.
 
And then the awkward part started: "why can't we have computer science do what you are trying to do." (My area is an intersection of comp science + construction mgmt). I tried my best to explain why its better have multidisciplinary approach. But he didn't show any sign of having understood my words. Then some weird questions about my high school (which is a bit famous) and its founders and if I know them well. ( I did, but the Indian prof had a different idea of who its founders were and took time to argue with me..Was saved by the DAAD rep who diverted the topic) And finally, "do you know any German." The german prof spoke in german for a bit before I could even say that I have not yet learnt and when I told him I did not know that much, just the basics of greeting, they had a good laugh. I ended up coming out thinking, " WTF happened!! It started so well, and then wooosh...went 10 feet under.."
