I feel like they'll send out the emails later this afternoon. If not then I can't accept the scholarship if I do happen to get it, mainly because I have to finalize and register my classes for the summer by tomorrow evening.

Well if they don't send out the emails by Fri, then I'm going to sign up for summer classes so I can knock-off a few extra classes for next semester.....I have to register by Wed.

Any day now....hopefully sometime today.

I did mention in my essays that I hadn't had any real formal training with the language. I am not a heritage speaker of the language, and I also mentioned that as well. So my guess is I either had a strong argument or they do accept beginners sometimes....I'm not exactly sure. I did call back in September '17 to ask why they only allow students at intermediate levels to apply for Mandarin Japanese, and Russian etc. They did say they only put those requirements because too many people in the past were applying for the same 3-4 languages and not even giving other languages such as Swahili, or Azerbaijan a chance. So my guess is that they do accept beginners but they must only accept a small pool of them. But like I said before I'm not sure. We'll see what else happens if I get the scholarship. Although I must say that I am getting a little antsy with anticipation.

Hey!!! I literally just created this account to see what others are doing in terms of applying for the CLS scholarship both past and present. That being said I applied for Intermediate Mandarin this summer 2018, and I am glad to say that I am a semi-finalist. I emailed the site to ask them when they will be announcing the finalist decisions, and I got an email back stating "Thank you for your inquiry, we do not know when we will be sending out emails about the semi-finalists status as a recipient, alternate, or non-recipient. Please continue to check for emails regularly as we will be sending out the decisions sometime within the next week or so". So basically sometime next week is what I'm getting from this response. Like the rest of you I hate having to wait for a response, especially since I am a semi-finalist. My only issue is that I have only had 4 months of Mandarin private tutoring, so I'm not sure if I will be even be allowed to go on the program if I were to be selected as a finalist, and if/when I take my Mandarin Oral Proficiency Examination. On my application I stated that I was at the intermediate level because that's what my tutor said I was at. Will this disqualify me from the scholarship if I were to receive this? I'm legit panicking.....
