  1. Nothing since the last post??? any news from any universities? On my side, I am still waiting on LSU and UVA... it is nerve breaking.
  2. Got my rejection Letter from Brown last night ??. Interview set with UVA ??. Still waiting to hear back from LSU ?.
  3. I have applied to Brown, LSU and UVA. I have an interview with UVA on February 19 via Skype. Anyone has heard from Brown?? I know applications at LSU are due early February so we will hear from them slightly later I guess. I am interested in 17th century Theater and 20th century Julian Green.
  4. Good morning y'all, I went through the process of application last year but had to turn down all univ because of personal matters. I am back in the application process again. I applied to LSU, Univ of virginia and Brown to enter a PhD program in French. I really like the 3 univ I have applied to this round but I am not sure which one is best, in case I get accepted everywhere (my dream). Any piece of advice??? Good luck to all, -- French Lady
  5. @madamoiselle @Saltshaker decision Made: LSU it is!!! Can't wait to start! I have preferred a more traditional program, taught in French in a city I do not know (but eager to discover living in Louisiana)!! THANK YOU ALL for your help during this process. Your pieces of advice have been lifesavers! This group rocks!
  6. @Saltshakerthank you for taking the time to answer. Austin is out. Only 3 profs there... So! Now down to LSU and Miami. One having a very standard French program all taught in French (LSU), variety of professors... and Miami, variety of professors, lots of research groups on campus, among which a few innovative ones too. Miami is like home: I have lived there for 5 years. Baton rouge, never been (only visited once quickly) which scares me a bit! I love the idea of Miami - innovative and home feeling. I love the idea of LSU - traditional and new for me.
  7. @madamoiselle thank you for such a long and completer answer. This is so much help! prestige is what is messing up my mind! I am afraid of making the wrong decision because once on the job market it will be hard! Let me weight my pros and cons then!
  8. Dear all, I need you r help. I have been accepted to yet another university last week (so now it is LSU, Austin and the univ of Miami). I am paralyzed, incapable of making a decision because I am afraid of making the wrong one. So, when evaluating all your offers, what is it that you have given importance to, in order of importance? Reputation of school even if, in the case of Austin, there seem to be having a few issues lately? funding amounts length of funding variety of faculty ... HELP!!! Thanks!!
  9. @hats thank you so much for your input. I am still debating between both programs. I'll research funding and all for both universities. I need to clarify that for sure... if funds run out after 4 years and I am still in the program, I am international so I can't work outside of campus. So it is either finish it in 4 years or go home in this case if the 4 years thing is truly a funding issue. Thanks again. It sheds a new light on the whole process.
  10. Exactly @madamoiselle. The offer is great!
  11. @HomewardBound both are really good but LSU has a very diverse set of professors, maybe more than Austin! Money wise, I lose $1000 per month in stipend going to LSU compared to Austin (based on a nine month contract). Since I already have a masters degree, LSU finances me for 4 years (3 semesters for classes and comps, the rest is writing) when Austin insists on me taking classes for at least 4 semesters then comps then writing. Austin finances for 6 years. I want to go fast so LSU is better. Austin gives an extra scholarship if you finish early. Honestly, I feel like Austin is buying out the students to come to their campus. But the money is so good. I don't want to go back to being a starving student (I am 36) !!!!
  12. ok so now Austin comes in with an offer (I was on the waiting list) and that's a lot of money! I have not accepted LSU yet
  13. I don't know. I understand the need for interdisciplinary classes... I understand we have to take theory classes in English and other classes in other departments that will be taught in english. But it really doesn't sit well with me that classes listed as French classes are being taught in English. How do you want to call yourself a specialist on French or francophone Literature if you have not spoken French in 5 years? That is my main concern (with stipend) but I'd rather take a smaller stipend and go to a Uni that teaches in French in order to encourage to keep what seems to become an exception , that get more money and have all my classes in English. So, for me, I think LSU it will be.
  14. I did not sit in any... I just asked the professors. I am in France and only visited campus during spring break.
  15. That was the first question I asked Dr Leichman. That's exactly what he said. I am telling you, I am really liking the feel I get from LSU.
  16. Hi y'all! I have had my interview with Austin and it went well I think. I was a bit taken aback by the fact that they teach their classes in English. Am I the only one that it surprises? Do you guys know if LSU teaches also in English? My Bachelor and Master's were all taught in French only. Still waiting to hear from Tulane and Miami.
  17. And I have an interview with UT at Austin on Thursday. How do I prepare in such a short time? My first and I guess only PhD interview!
  18. @Madamoiselle I had the chance to be on campus mid-February. I accompanied my sister who was giving a paper at a conference there. I took the opportunity to meet with Dr Wettlaufer to discuss the program... I have not heard from them so I am guessing I am waitlisted. I visited campus, the Harris Ransom Center (OMG this is amazing...) LSU and Austin are my top choices. crossing fingers I get Austin.
  19. Waitlisted à l'université de Miami.
  20. I emailed them. You should too. You might be waitlisted as well. Better no news than a rejection!
  21. Hi Y'all! I have just discovered this forum! So excited not be to alone in the waiting game. I have applied to LSU, Univ of Miami, Tulane, and Univ of Texas at Austin for the PhD in French lit or French Studies. I have been accepted at LSU, waitlisted at Tulane and waiting on the other schools. I have contacted them all since I can't stand the wait any longer! I have read your posts and wonder about the interview process. I have received an acceptance email from LSU with funding, travel expenses fro research and conferences.... They offer to set up a Skype to answer my questions. Is that the interview or not? How could they offer acceptance and then take it away? I am somewhat lost in the process.
