Without knowing your career goals, I'd pick either SIPA or Georgetown. I lived in the Bay Area for 5 years and IMO it is much harder to live there on a student budget than it is to live in DC or even NY (limited and expensive public transit, few 'cheap' neighborhoods to live in, etc).

Thank you. I'm looking to redirect my career towards development, but not yet sure what specific area. I do want to maintain a big international perspective, as I would like to return sooner or later to Venezuela. How much of an advantage would being in DC provide?

  2. Hey everyone,

Maybe someone can provide some guidance. I didn't get in to HKS, unfortunately, but I'm in the MDP program at Berkeley, MPA-DP in SIPA, and MIDP in Georgetown. All three of them end up being similar amounts after funding. Do you recommend any over the other? Do you think it will be easier to get a better job in one program over the other? Any opinion would be fantastic!

yeah! If they don't post anything within the next hour, then I think it is because they will release decisions soon today!

If they do post something (alumni series or sth) then it might as well be tomorrow (please don't, HKS, please don't)

I agree, but last year they did post the last post on the 6th and the results came out on the 8th... So...

I promise, there’s some poor junior staff who will do it. I’m supposed to be literally doing the same thing right now instead of being on Harvard watch. ??

    HAHAHA! This is too good!

Anyway, there's good evidence for both sides. He could be signing letters, meaning that name reading is done, and the results could come out today because admissions letters don't need to be signed by hand to be received electronically. Admissions letter could go out tomorrow to all those accepted and that wouldn't change the timeline for electronic updates. However, you could also argue this is just another part of the process that is done before sending out the results and we'll have to wait at least until tomorrow (pre 1:00 pm?) for our results on the webpage.

Either way, I CAN'T TAKE THIS ANYMORE!!!!

It will be either at 1:00 PM or tomorrow. It can't be too late because I'm sure they get called for questions after admissions get released and someone has to be there to answer them. But even then, it is entirely possible it could be this Friday. Either way, we'll have a decision before the weekend comes.

I think you're hedging your bets a bit there haha. But yes, I agree with your central premise. If they don't come out before 1, I don't think they'll come until tomorrow.

Another point to observe: They posted this blog early in the morning. Which means results might be later in the day.

Had they planned on releasing results later, this blog post would have been made in the afternoon.

Most blog posts I have received have been posted pretty early. I mostly get the email by 9:46 am and the post is online a while before that.

Also maybe we shouldnt correlate posting of blog to conduction of process? My point being may be names have been read already & this was just for information.

I agree with this! But I think if we don't get results before 1pm, we are not getting them. I also don't think Princeton's deadline has any influence.

If they’ve slated 16th March for Financial aid, I highly doubt they’ll converge the two.. they’ll probably release admissions atleast a day before. Which is 15th.

Or I could be wrong & they’d want to release both together. So we’re looking at 15th & 16th at the moment.

Funding (scholarship & fellowship) and financial aid have been handled separately by all the schools that have given me a decision. Therefore, could they announce funding and admissions decisions together and then financial aid information a few days later?

  9. I've done a quick search on results for previous years and it seems that in 2015, the results were also reported on the second Wednesday of March (March 11). However, in 2014 it was March 13 (a Thursday), and the year before that was March 18 (Monday). I don't think it is conclusive yet, but it seems safe to say that it will be in the next 2-3 days.

2016 .. March 9th was a Wednesday. Results also came out that year on a Wednesday

Absolutely true, my mistake! As you see, March 08 I said is a Tuesday and made an error on March 09. It has come out, in the last two years, on the same day: second wednesday of March, shortly before 1PM (according to the two blog posts).

Did they release the name reading blog on the day of decisions last year? & does anyone remember what blog they released on the day of decisions - was it a blog informing us that decisions would be out soon? Because if so, the name reading blog may get skipped this year?

No, here's how it seems to have played out in 2016 and 2017:

    2017:

    1. March 02 (Thursday) - Admissions Decision Page Explainer
    2. March 05 (Sunday) - Admitted Decision Explainer
    3. March 06 (Monday) - Name Reading Process
    4. March 08 (Wednesday) - Admissions Decisions Posted

    2016:

    1. March 04 (Friday) - Admissions Decision Page Explainer
    2. March 07 (Monday) - Admitted Decision Explainer
    3. March 08 (Tuesday) - Name Reading Process
    4. March 09 (Thursday) - Admissions Decisions Posted
  12. It does seem like, based on previous 2 years, the decisions have been released on this Wednesday (second Wed. of March). However, we're still missing the name reading blog post that they've sent the past two years. Do you think we won't get it?
