Apparently with the September cohort they sent out denials and waitlist letters first, then the acceptance ones.  Hopefully thats the case this time as well.

That's what I've been thinking too. No changes on Loris for me either...

I'm just doing the prerequisites for the Masters of Counselling at Athabasca.  Trying to get them done before February so I can apply.  If I don't get accepted there, I'm going to try Yorkville I think. Which one were you accepted to?

I have been accepted to Yorkville! I have a friend from work who just graduated and is now working in a hospital in BC doing counselling and she really enjoyed it. I didn't apply to Athabasca - if my memory is correct, they wanted you to do 3 wks on campus in AB and it would have been very difficult for me to manage that!

I don't have a BSW, but my main reason for wanting to do a MSW is so I can work as a mental health therapist.  I am applying for Masters of Counselling Psychology programs as well, and whatever I end up getting accepted into, is what I will do.  I live in Alberta and most of the job postings I see for mental health therapists need either a MSW or MC. I don't think a BSW can work as a clinical social worker, I could be wrong though.

Which Masters of Counselling Psych programs have you applied to? I've been accepted to one already!

Is anyone waiting to hear back from Laurier for January 2019? I emailed an enrolment advisor today to ask if they were still on track for decisions to be made by late August/early September. I was told there was a large number of applicants and they are still reviewing files. Decisions will be emailed in the next two months. Waiting is so hard!

2 months ? That seems like such a long time!! I'm glad you followed up with them directly though. Thanks for sharing the update!

  5. Hi Everyone! I'm glad I searched for this group, I have been following the 2018 group. I've applied to and am waiting to hear back from Laurier for their 2 year online MSW starting in January. I'm a new mom so online is definitely what would work best at this point! I'm really excited. I didn't realize how competitive the program is until after I had applied, which has made me a bit nervous.I was accepted to a MACP program already but am hoping for Laurier. I've been obsessively checking my email and LORIS account daily but am expecting the wait to stretch into the fall. I've got about about 5.5 years' experience as a case manager (women's shelters, mental health, addictions, EAPs). My background is an Honours BA in psychology, a post graduate program (Concurrent Disorders), a written thesis, and experience presenting and performing my own research as well as working in a lab. I'm not sure how to calculate a GPA but I was well above the minimum requirements. I know I had excellent recommendation letters from psychologists I work with. I really hope we hear soon!

I have no idea who this Dilyara person is. lol!  I had a phone conversation with a Monica, who is an enrolment advisor.  The first time I was on Laurier's website, a chat window popped up and I started asking questions there.  Within minutes she was phoning me; I couldn't answer because I was at work so she emailed me as well.   The end of the email said "I would love to talk to you further about the program.  Could you let me know what time you are available so that I can set up an interview with you?"  She asked me a bunch of questions about my grades and why I was interested in being a social worker.  After we spoke, she sent me an email with all the application information.  I applied for the January 2019 intake, and all my info has been in since last week.  I expected they wouldn't start contacting people until after the application cut-off, which is June 28.  Our phone conversation was very casual and I didn't really think of it as an interview, but just an informative discussion.

I've also been working with Monica, she contacted me within minutes of downloading the program brochure online and asked me a bunch of questions to make sure I met their requirements and program minimums. All of my forms have been submitted as of last week as well and she told me that we can expect to hear "within September or earlier" in regards to a decision.

I just got an email this morning from Dilyara at Laurier requesting an interview from me for the Jan 2019 intake. Did anyone else get this email?? The email ends with "I will be able to answer any questions you might have about the program to make sure that Wilfrid Laurier is a great fit for you."

Sounds like good news I hope, fingers crossed!!

Was this the entry date you applied to? Was it for online/part time or Full time?  Edit: when did you finish your application package, can you share a bit about your background? :)

There are 80 spots and 290 applicants for September intake. Thank you for your positive vibes. In your cohort, did everyone have similar credentials? Did most have work experience? Or high grades? Just curious to what they put the most emphasis on (grades, work experience, certain degrees?)

How did you find out the number of applicants? I was told that the class size for Jan 2019 would be about 40 students. Thanks!
