  1. Hi everyone, I am a new immigrant in Canada and I have a Masters degree in psychology. I am going to apply to a Ph.D. program in social psychology next year. Since I have one year to prepare myself What can I do to maximize my chances of being accepted? I don't have any publications and have 3 years of experience working in an organization for street and working children. My grades are good and I think I can get a decent GRE score. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  2. So they are not going to ask about these scores prior to the application deadlines?
  3. Thanks for replying. I have heard that if one is self-funded, after the first year when the classes are completed, the main focus will be on the thesis and you will have more free time to work. Is that accurate?
  4. Hi everyone, I have the option to self-fund my Ph.D. studies. My question is if I don't request funding, will I have enough time to work during the course of my Ph.D.? I would rather work on my own than being an RA or a TA and I think it would be more beneficial to me overally. I am applying for Ph.D. programs in social psychology. If the answer to the aforementioned question is yes, should I mention that in my application or when contacting potential advisors? Will it have a positive or negative effect on my chances of being enrolled in the program?
  5. Hi everyone I am applying for Ph.D. in social psychology this fall in Canada. I am currently studying for GRE and TOEFL but I am getting worried that I might lose my chance of contacting potential advisors if I wait until I have my scores. Should I just start emailing them and take my exams before the application deadline? or is it better if I take the exams now so I can mention my them in my emails?
  6. Thanks for replying Back in Iran one of my classmates told me that they require a writing sample which is basically an article based on your thesis, so they can assess your writing and research abilities. So that is completely inaccurate?
  7. Hi everyone I have a masters in family therapy which I completed in Iran and I am currently a Canadian resident. I want to apply for PhD in social psychology. Is it necessary to provide a writing sample in my application since I do not have any publications and my thesis is not in English? The application requirements for universities that I have checked so far do not mention anything about a writing sample
