  1. I applied to a small program for Education PhD. I’ve scoured this forum and the university has few posts and in my discipline there are none. I know most of their parents PhD students go part time and are working professionals. (During informal meetings they said they were excited about a Full time candidate with a math background) I’m not sure how to even find other students im actually a little more at ease knowing there are no formal rules.
  2. I was accepted at the beginning of the month. I received notification of my advisor- she said she would be in touch at the end of the month. So my question is how long does it normally take to get funding notification? I have 10+ teaching experience, I thought for sure I'd be an ideal candidate for a teaching GA-ship.I put in my FAFSA- and the loan amount won't even cover all the school expenses. Adding that I also need to find a place to live and have 2 kids- I'm getting nervous. I'm sure I could defer my admission for Fall if they can't offer funding this semester and find a way to get back on the teaching schedule at my current job- if I had to. Maybe I just need a few deep breaths- it's not the end of the month yet right? Right?
  3. I would at least look at the faculty and see if there is anyone you would like to work with. If there is anyone, then you should contact them and mention them in your application whether they respond to you or not. I think sincerity is key- not contacting them just to establish contact. Good luck!
  4. Hi Everyone, Yes, it's only September, but who's getting ready for 2019 applications? What are you working on? I just submitted my application for a PhD in Education:STEM. I'm anxiously waiting to hear from something. It doesn't help that there seems to be no history of anyone from that program who has posted here.
  5. I don't know if anyone has been in this situation. The University I applied to requires proof of two doses of MMR in my lifetime. Which I have had- however this was pre-2000 (oh god I feel old saying that) and pre- digital vaccination records. It has also been 10 years since I've been in grad school, 15 years since undergrad- I am pretty sure both schools will not have records of my vaccinations. So here's my situation, I had the first extra dose of MMR today. I have to wait 28 days for the next one. If I get an acceptance letter in the next 4 weeks, how soon do I have to respond? Is there some sort of waiver I can get being conditionally accepted until I show proof of the 2nd dose? I realize that this is a completely unique scenario but just thought I would ask in the event someone had a similar experience.
  6. I'm applying for Spriong 19 PhD Education program. It's been 10 years since I did my MA. I've been teaching at a university since grad school. I submitted my application, and it's been under review for the last week and a half. I'm stressing out and compulsively checking my email and portal. The program I applied has rolling admissions, I'm unsure of how long that process takes vs. a traditional admissions process.
  7. I'm really nervous about being a non-traditional student. I'm 30+ two kids, I've been teaching for 10 years since my MA. I keep going back and forth about whether I can really do this, do I want to do this?
  8. I am applying for Spring 19 for a PhD in Education. I'm anxiously waiting for my response. Just thought I would say "Hi" since the UNR posts seem to be few are far between. How are you liking Reno so far?
