Elina reacted to MichaelMonroe in I got a 5 on the AWA!!!
I'm soooo happy. I took the GRE over the summer and got 156Q/157V/3AWA and I was feeling really bad about myself. I considered sending in the scores anyways, but my advisor (who's seen my writing before) was convinced that the writing score was a fluke. I took the test again on Oct 15 and just got my scores back: 154Q/160V/5AWA! I'm sooo happy! I expected my Q to go down a bit, but since I'm in psych I don't think a low Q score will kill me.
For anyone struggling with the AWA I practiced using this format for the argument: https://www.kaptest.com/study/gre/how-to-structure-the-gre-argument-essay/. And this format for the issue https://www.kaptest.com/study/gre/how-to-structure-the-gre-issue-essay/. I just memorized the basic format and practiced it timed about 4-5 times without looking at my notes.

Elina reacted to bibliophile222 in Can anyone help me with AWA section of GRE?
I am not able to open your document, but a quick Google search brought me to this https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/argument/sample_responses for an argument essay and this https://www.ets.org/gre/revised_general/prepare/analytical_writing/issue/sample_responses for an issue essay. Each section provides sample essays with different scores and explains why they were scored this way.
If you can't get a teacher or tutor to look over your writing, even a friend or family member may be able to provide some feedback--even if they're not skilled writers, they can at least tell you if they found your writing clear, thoughtful, and logical.
Good luck!

Hi everyone!
I want to apply to the MPP or MPA program in Columbia University, Duke or Chicago. However, I do not know if my scores are good enough. My GRE scores are 150 in verbal and 165 in math. Although, I have a 110 points in my TOEFL exam.

1. Master in Economic Theory. Top 5% of Graduate School students
2. Economics degree. First in class 2011 of Social Science’s Faculty.
3. Working experience. Principal advisor of the Treasury Department. Previously, Director of competitiveness.
4. Teaching experience: Teaching assistant of microeconomics, advanced microeconomics applied macroeconomics, among others.
5. Awards: Outstanding Labor Performance, IDB Scholarship for Executive Program on MacroFinancial Policymaking, and Outstanding performance in undergrad and graduate program.
Please, let me know what you think!
Thanks in advance!
