  1. I talked to the DGS on the phone a few days ago. It went very well. Thank you guys, especially @avidnote, for your advice. I really appreciate it. p.s. @avidnote your Korean sentence is perfect!!
  2. I got an admission offer from one of my top schools. Though I am really happy about this, I wanna make my final decision after I get my results from other schools so that I can choose the best option available for me. Would the DGS or my POI be offended if I tell them that I need some time to make my final decision? I am supposed to have a "brief phone conversation" with the DGS next week, and I really have no idea what to tell him. One more thing, I am an international and I have no idea how this "brief phone conversation" thing works. What will they ask or talk about? I've never had a phone conversation in English, so I am a little freaked out. Thnx in advance.
  3. I just finished and submitted my PhD program application today. I contacted my POI before the application process, and he encouraged me to apply. (I guess this is a good sign, right?) Now that I am done with my application, should I send him another email telling him that I applied? or should I just wait until the decision comes out? I am from South Korea If I were applying here in my country, I would definitely send another email. But I'm not so sure if that's appropriate in the US. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me some advice on this. Thanks.
  4. Thank you both for your answers!
  5. I'm now living in South Korea, and it is almost impossible in my country to get accurate information about the whole PhD application process. So I was wondering if I could get some information here. (I apologize in advance for my English. They might sound a little weird since I am not a native English speaker.) 1. I am applying to a history doctoral program in Washington D.C. Its ranking in history, according to the US News, is about top 50-60th. Would my GRE score be enough? (VR: 164 / QR: 166 / AW: 4.0) Some of my friends are saying that I should get higher score in VR and AW, since I am aiming for a humanities program. But I am not sure. I can probably take the exam one more time, but it will eat up my time to prepare SOP and Writing Sample. Do I really need a score higher than what I have now? 2. I just finished my first SOP draft. But, since I am not a native English speaker, it's hard for me to figure out if it's okay or not. So I am thinking about using SOP-editing service. Has anyone used one? Is it helpful? If so, is there a particular service that you would recommend? Thanks.
