  1. I actually got an official rejection the day after they responded saying my application was "on hold for further review." Was definitely a reach for me though. Good luck with your interview!
  2. Yes that would be amazing!! I listed a few in the form they sent out to organize the interview but still trying to look into potential faculty with comp research. About the invite, I got at 3:35pm EST. It didn't seem particularly personalized (it was sent by the Dean of the program Sidney Strickland) but it's my first so I don't really have anything to compare with. And yes, I am international! Also, the deadline to fill out the form isn't until Jan 18th, so they might still be sending out interviews? 11 days seems like pretty long if they sent all their invites out yesterday. Did Columbia respond to your email?
  3. This is sort of a strange question that I would've never thought about, but earlier today I was invited to interview at Rockefeller in NYC. When I told my current PI, she said I should also contact Columbia (which I applied to but was never invited to interview for -- from the results section, it seems like a fair number of invites for Systems Biology went out last month too) letting them know I would be in the region. Her rationale: since they won't have to fly me in (I'm an international student) and pay for accommodation, they might be more interested in setting up an interview. Is this something that people do? To me, it seems kind of awkward to send an email *letting them know I'll be in the area* when I'm almost certain they had no plans to interview me at all. But if this is indeed something that is done fairly commonly and might improve my chances of getting in at Columbia, I guess I should try it? Please help me not be rude!
  4. Which professors are you interested in working with at Rockefeller? I just got an invite to interview but my interests are mostly genomics/comp bio and I'm worried there might not be too many PIs working in those fields
