  1. I took audiology this semester and was so disappointed with the course.

The professor was hard to reach and would take weeks to respond back to emails. It was difficult when I had questions about the lecture and the professor would not answer. The professor should have been more present and attentive when responding to concerns and emails throughout the semester

I felt as if I had to teach myself a lot of the work being that we were just given the power-points with no other feedback  Some of the ppts. were very unorganized.

I believe since the class is online, a professor should be more present in the course and should explain material fully and throughly since there is not that face to face interaction. I don't believe that was done so in this course. I have taken multiple online classes and this was by far one of the most challenging because of the way the class was organized.

At the end of the day, you have to do what you have to do, but just be prepared to really give this class ALL of your attention. I am enrolled in a graduate program already but needed to take this class and it was more challenging than my grad classes. Because of how limited it was to get in touch with the professor and how unclear all of the material was, I feel as if I wasn’t as successful as I expected myself to be in the course!

I forgot to ask this earlier--are you doing clinic your first semester, and are you in a full-time or part-time program? If classes are only Monday/Tuesday, but you have a lot of them and/or also have clinic on those days, I would not advise working more than 10-20 hours a week, and even that is pushing it depending on the program. You may need W-F at least somewhat free for all your school/clinic work and any meetings, group projects, etc that may come up. If you get a less flexible job W-F, you may have to frequently request time off.

I don’t have clinic this semester or next! But I wanted to get a feel of the work load before committing to something. It is a full time program and I do want to work somewhere where I can benefit from, rather then the job I have now that has nothing to do with speech. I’m still keeping my current job but willing to leave if I find a different option that involves working with SLPs

  3. Hi everyone! I start my graduate program in a few weeks and couldn’t be more excited. I only have class on Monday and Tuesday and want to do something else Wednesday-Friday. I would like to leave my current job because it has nothing to do with speech and find a job that actually involves my future profession.

I was wondering if you guys could share your work experiences while in graduate school. Being only a graduate student I am not really sure what jobs I would be able to qualify for so this would be very helpful. I am from New York and looking around this area.

hey i am in liu post right now. in my first year! It's great. the professors are really awesome and so nice. the speech science professor is the one that everyone is not a fan of (if you heard about that). don't be nervous at all! I was too and i am so grateful i picked here

How was taking speech science with that professor? I have heard horror stories.

  5. Totally let my nerves get the best of me in my first interview to my number one school. I still haven’t heard back even though it was on Friday but feel completely discouraged because I hear they are pretty quick to accept you after the interview. Plus I had to write a writing supplement and I know my wording was all over the place because I was so nervous and couldn’t formulate my thoughts!  I look back now and think about all the things I wish I did different. I have an acceptance to another school under contingency that I finish 3 to 4 pre-req classes over the summer. I’m going to be doing a lot of work this summer, because that looks like the only school I’m accepted too so far. I still am waiting to hear back from 5 more schools hopefully everything goes well. I am so stressed and needed to vent so thank you!!!!

  6. Thank you! And at Longwood University because they offer every single prerequisite all year long. Also you can take individual classes. I know some programs make you follow a sequence and I’ve finished some of the prerequisites in my undergrad and just need like 2 more classes so I’m not looking to enroll into a program just take 2 classes.   I was going to take speech science with Longwood, but I’m not sure if I should now that I need hearing science as well, going to call the school tomorrow and try to figure that out because on CSDCAS speech and hearing science were considered 1 prerequisite. Are you able to just take one class at ENMU or do you have to enroll into a specific program?

  7. Does anyone a school that offers “Hearing Science” online in the summer. I’m offered admission to a school under contingency that I fulfill this prerequisite. I thought audiology fulfilled this but apparently it’s a whole different course and the post-Bach program that I am taking classes from don’t offer it.

Hey there! I actually didn't apply to any of these schools, but did visit NYU in the fall for a prospective student session and applied there. I've seen other posters from NY apply to a lot of in-state schools besides NYU. Just curious if there was a reason for this (being in-state you may know more about their program/have reasons for not applying). Let me know if you feel like sharing, and good luck with your schools!!

I wanted to apply to NYU but unfortunately I didn’t have all the supplemental essays done by January 1st. NYU was one of the first deadlines
