  1. Mieux commencer à pratiquer votre français mon ami. Prévoyez-vous visiter d'autres lieux en France? Je me demandais ce que vous aviez décidé, afin Merci pour la mise à jour. Profitez de votre temps à Paris.
  2. Previous posts have mentioned taking on additional TA positions - well, my offer letter specifically states that I am prohibited from taking another on-campus job without prior approval. I am happy that they mentioned on-campus, though - off-campus jobs - here I come
  3. Sorry that your advisor is becoming a bear about your graduating from MA. A department makes the recommendation for admission. It is the responsibility of the Graduate Studies office to check transcripts, eligibility etc. and yes, also making a conditional admission. The fact that your Dept. Chair did not reference the conditionality of admission, does not mean it is not conditional. It is still conditional that you finish your MA. Even if your advisor had not written about it in his LOR, if your transcripts showed that you were still finishing up your MA at the end of Spring Semester, it would trigger the conditional clause for admission. (I worked at Grad. school office and have seen this happen several times) If you do not tell your PHD program - that could come to bite you. They can revoke your admission and take back any money they have paid you. Are you likely to finish the thesis during Summer and only need to return to defend it in the Fall or do you think you will have to continue working on it in the Fall? Check your PhD. school policy on deferring your admission to next Spring. Also check the policy on conditional admission. Some schools allow you to submit updated transcripts to show completed coursework before you go for your comps. Good Luck!
  4. Depending on which debit card you use and where you use it, there will not be a charge. Some banks charge a fee for withdrawal from an ATM of a different bank - so check which ATM you will not be charged. Usually there is no card charges if you make purchases using your card - but check the fine print on the bank account you open. Try not to carry too much cash for arrival into the US - chance of theft will be high. contact your school's international student office and get in touch with other international students already attending for ideas on navigating life on campus. They will be a good resource for finding cheap apartments, ethnic eating/shopping places etc. Shopping at Farmer's markets, you can get local veggies etc. and you can stock up for the week. If you shop at Sam's Club or BJ's which are wholesale stores, so you can buy bulk items much cheaper. However, you need to be a member - so check with other international students at your school. Good Luck with the move.
  5. Your supervisor sounds like a wonderful person and they obviously think a lot about you to keep making changes. Good for you! I guess it a waiting game now. Good Luck!
  6. Thank you for posting this information. How are utilities handled, do you know? Are there any areas to avoid? Do you know in which areas grad. students typically live? Are there any listings that I can check for the houses and/or apartments? TIA
  7. OOOOOH! La! La! - PARIS!?!?! That would decide me right away! FOR A MONTH!!!! OoooooooooooH! Go! Go! Go! I know I am not being helpful, but my only excuse - the Lights of Eiffel Tower, are blinding me!
