[If I feel like I've been waitlisted, is it a good idea to reach out to graduate admissions to ask when I should expect to hear back from them?]

I feel like I've been waitlisted at 2 of the universities that I applied to, and I really don't like the suspense, mainly because I don't have any safeties (my bad, I know), so I was wondering whether reaching out to admission is any good (or whether showing interest in the program pushes me at the top of the waiting list). I'd like some input before going forward with this. Thank you in advance!

[Question regarding research proposal in my application]

Hi! I'm applying to a college, and I'm asked to write a research proposal. I have no idea where to start, since I'm not really familiar with the research process and I haven't dealt with any beforehand (I'm applying to CS grad school, if that makes any difference).
