I got admission in both UMich and UCLA for my PhD study, and my wish is to study at UCLA. UMich offered me admission with sufficient financial aid, BUT UCLA only offered me admission. According to the staff of UCLA, they do not provide TA for newly admitted students, instead I am allowed to apply for TA after my first quarter. For those who are studying at UCLA grad school, is it common for a student to get TA after their first quarter? Thank you.
