Hey guys,
I need help making a decision.. I have unfunded MA offers from BU psychology and Case Western Cognitive Linguistics. I ultimately want to pursue PhD in Cognitive Science/Cognitive psychology in the future but I am trying to increases my chances by having either more research experience or a good MA GPA..
BU
Pros
- it is in Boston and I love Boston
- if I do well, there is a chance that I will be able to get inducted to psi chi, the honor society
- i will get a MA thesis, which is more research experience
- it is 1 year program but I am planning on doing it in 2 years so I can potentially do part time lab work at school
Cons
- I am not sure if BU psyc MA program is well recognized and/or I dont know how phd programs look at MA in general psychology
- probably high living expenses
Case Western
Pros
- I will study cognitive linguistics, which has different approach to things than cognitive psychology
- smaller program
- it is 2 years program
- cheaper living expenses
Cons
- have to pay more tuition
- I have never been to OH but i am guessing I will like it less than boston
- it is 2 year program so I might not be able to get a part time lab job.
Taking a year off
Pros
- I will not have to take out loans
- i will hopefully find a job as a RA
Cons
- Getting a job as a RA can be quite difficult in a small field... might not find one
- Just by having more research experiences doesnt guarantee a better chance of admission next year...
What would you do if you were in my situation??
Thanks so much in advance!
