    Dyscalculia

Hi. I just ran across this message/post of yours. I'm helping my daughter do research. She's 22 and going into her senior year at college. Her dream is to be a physical therapist. She was diagnosed w/ dyscalculia in her senior year of high school after struggling with SAT scores (math). She now has to apply to grad schools and the GRE is giving her problems....particularly the math! Most grad schools require a minimum score to apply but she can't seem to get there because of the math. We've gotten her online tutors and have found a dyscalculia doctor (specialist) in Texas. BUT, that GRE is tough!! It's computer-based and timed which certainly adds to her anxiety. She took the GRE for the second time this past Wed. We got her a tutor that worked with her for 1 month, 4 times/week online (while her doctor was on vacation out of the country). He was wonderful but the computer-based and timed testing was just too much for her. It's heart-wrenching because she has a 3.4 overall GPA...It would be higher but the math courses and sections of science courses tripped her up. She has done remarkably well in spite of this, though! She applied for accommodations with the GRE but they rejected her (even with a written letter from her doctor) unless she took THEIR $600 test! WHat a pain...But, her doctor administered the test. This is proving to be a HUGE stumbling block and I cannot believe something like this silly test could prevent her from living her dream of being a PT. I'm currently searching for advocacy, etc. But, from what I'm reading, grad school is tougher! They CAN be selective with their candidates and don't "have" to take you. We're not giving up just yet, though. We've reached out to our local Intl Dyslexia Association but haven't heard back.... Good luck with everything! This is a frustrating and seemingly cruel LD! But, I believe you're all gifted!!!! Hang in there!
