  1. So I applied to graduate school 2 years ago and got accepted into my top school in Boston. Unfortunately, I had a couple emergencies come up that drained me financially, and it become unrealistic to move to Boston. I decided to apply to graduate school in my hometown this past year where I felt sure I'd get accepted. But I didn't. I called and spoke to the director who said there was nothing I could've done to make my written application materials stronger, but in the interview portion she just didn't feel like the professors got to know me very well. I struggle with anxiety pretty bad, especially in interviews, and her advice was that I pay out of pocket to take a class so they can get to know me better (which is financially unfeasible for me). Anyways, I'm planning to apply to other graduate schools again this year, but my question is this: what should I say to my recommenders? Obviously, I'll need their help again, but I have no idea what to say at this point, asking for a letter of recommendation a third time. I just feel really bad for asking. And I kind of just feel like a loser because I didn't get into this school, which I thought was a sure thing and I don't know how to explain that to them. What should I say to them? :(
