Hi all, so I've been finding it really difficult to get information on the PhD admissions process for non-clinical psychology. My situation is that there was a professor who indicated that he wants me to apply to his lab at UCLA (which I hadn't even considered before getting to know him) and I'm not sure if I'll get weeded out based on GPA/GRE before he can put in a good word. Any thoughts or feedback would be greatly appreciated
Undergrad GPA (UC Irvine): I have a 3.42 overall , a 3.49 for my major and 3.74 for the overall department
Post-Bacc GPA (UC Irvine): I did a post-bacc in Psychology and got a 3.96, with mostly neurobiology, statistics, and CS courses.
Research Background: I've worked in translational neurobiology (Research Assistant), computational cognitive science (Junior Research Specialist), and behavioral psychology (Research Assistant) labs for about 2.5 years. I also have presented posters at 4 conferences, 2 national and 2 at UCI.
Aside from that, I'm really with data analysis and computational/statistical modeling- that's kind of my "special skill" area as a psychology major.
GRE: I haven't taken the GRE but my scores are projected (from Magoosh) to be somewhere around 153-156 for verbal and 156-159 for quant... which seem pretty average.
If anyone has any wisdom to share about non-clinical psychology (specifically cognitive psychology) phd admissions, I'm definitely all ears!
