  1. Sending you all good and generous news for funding ?
  2. Check out this link for more detail on how the selections process goes: https://www.gatescambridge.org/apply/how-we-select/ If I were to summarize I’d say 1. Each department ranks applicants. Top applicants are referred to Gates. Applicants not in top won’t hear from Gates at all ( since Gates never saw their app) 2. Gates received apps of the top students from each department. Apps are sent to each of the 4 panels. Panels select top apps from their pile. Top apps are sent to the interview round. Remaining apps are informed that they won’t be moving on. Hope this is helpful. The Gates process can be confusing.
  3. Sorry to hear that, I hope you get funded via the other avenues! To answer your question, departments can rank and nominate candidates before accepting them to the university. Some folks will already have received their offer and college assignment, while others may not hear from their department before hearing from Gates.
  4. Sending positive vibes everyone’s way! Here’s to folks getting their needed funding—via Gates or other means ❤️
  5. If other folks in your same panel have heard, I’d start focusing on other Cambridge funding opportunities. If they haven’t, I’d hold on until next week. ??
  6. Yes and yes. Departments are supposed to submit their “best” candidates to Gates, so fingers crossed for the other funding opportunities you applied to!
  7. It’s seems normal for Gates. Those of us on the social sciences and arts panels lucked out by getting notification on Thursday and having the weekend (but still 48 hours across business days to reply)
  8. If it helps, I’ve yet to hear ANYTHING about the physical and biological sciences panel awardees.
  9. I’m was reviewed by the social sciences panel btw. I have until 9a UK time on Jan 26 to accept
  10. As of 3 minutes ago, I’m a Gates Cambridge Scholar! US applicants, check your email!
  11. So I’m guessing we’ll find out next week? Or really any day now...how is everyone holding up?
  12. I received an email at 12p Cambridge time. I wasn’t checking my status since I was well beyond my 3 weeks (more like 7.5 weeks) and didn’t want to obsess.
  13. Accepted to Trinity College today
  14. Nope, I ranked Trinity and Christ’s and I haven’t heard. I was admitted to my program 18/11.
  15. Someone on TheStudentRoom also mentioned being accepted to this college
  16. Thanks for sharing + Congratulations!
  17. Seems like Round 1 (US scholars living in the US) finalists for the Social and Physical Sciences panels have been notified. Social Science finalist had to accept their finalist position Dec 14—not sure if there is a waiting list.
  18. Sounds like your department might be a little slow on the website-facing end. It’s honestly more important that they passed your app to Gates Cambridge than that they let you know they loved your app. ? Hopefully you get your official letter soon!
  19. Ahh okay. I received my offer letter 18/11 and am still awaiting my college acceptance
  20. I did! I missed it this morning, but checked my inbox after reading this thread. I have the social science panel.
  21. How long after your acceptance to your degree Program did you hear from the colleges?
  22. I applied to the PhD in Education on 14/10 and heard back 18/11. Waiting on a college assignment. No word on Gates ??
  23. Not sure the specifics of your research, but you should also consider Ruha Benjamin (my senior thesis advisor). She also writes and teaches at the intersection of (biological/medical) science, technology, and society. João Biehl too if your work takes a more anthropological approach.
