  1. Just submitted my deposit for Columbia! Ah! See some of you there in the fall ? question- how long after you submitted your deposit did you receive your student ID, other enrollment information, etc? I just got an email confirming that my admissions response was received. I haven’t gotten any confirmation of my deposit yet but I only submitted it a few hours ago. Tagging @SWColumbia ?
  2. I wouldn't overthink it that much re: top picks! Their finc. aid office could just be backed up because the March 3rd deadline for deposit is approaching- I know I submitted an appeal over a week ago and many on this forum have too so I am sure they are just super busy. I recommend calling the office directly. I did when it was taking awhile to hear back about my original award letter and they were so nice and told me when I would hear back (which wound up being exactly right)!
  3. thank you!! yeah i received my original award via email too- just getting impatient to hear back. i want to submit my deposit and make it official!!!
  4. Hi all! For those who applied for finc. aid reconsideration at CU, did you hear back via email or portal? CC @SWColumbia ?
  5. Hey! I am interested in school social work as well, particularly in urban communities where mental health resources may not be accessible in schools. What drew me to Columbia rather than NYU was their research capabilities. I did a ton of digging on their professors and research work done by them, and there are a lot of interesting and exciting initiatives happening around school-based discrimination and other relevant issues. NYU has great clinical capacities, but I think CU offers a more wholistic balance between macro while still offering a ton of clinical training opportunities (ie their DBT program). Personally, I think it is important to be macro and policy aware even if you are planning on doing clinical, micro work, especially if you are working with historically underserved communities.
  6. I got in yesterday- I actually did not have time to apply for finc. aid for them but after some digging on their website it seems like they give very few school scholarships?
  7. Hi all- I just submitted my appeal to CU for increased financial aid. I was accepted into Rutgers and BU, but have not received financial aid information from them yet so do not have competing scholarships. However, Rutgers is significantly cheaper. My appeal was pretty simple- I just stated that I had been accepted into other area schools in which tuition was lower and that CU is still my top choice, but their tuition is a challenge. I also mentioned that I will be leaving my full-time job and moving across the country, which will be a financial hurdle in itself. I wasn't able to include any other competing scholarship info to match ?. Long story short, for those who appealed to CU (tagging @SWColumbia - btw, thank you for your help with the appeal information in general- it was so helpful ) how long did it take for you to hear back? The response said two weeks but I am hoping it's less than that because I really want to submit my deposit and make it official! Thanks guys- congrats to all who received acceptances today. and those who received disappointing news- keep hanging on. I've been there- it's corny, but I have realized that if it's meant to be it will be.
  8. I second this question! Please help! I have only been admitted to one other school (RU). It's significantly less so I am hoping I can use this as a bargaining chip, but I did not receive any scholarships and it looks like the traditional way to appeal is to write an email to the Dean of Admissions and include your competing scholarship info to see if they can match that. I'm still waiting on Hunter but most likely won't hear back from them until April, and need to submit my deposit by March 3rd (could extend but I'm guessing not that long, and honestly I would like to submit my deposit by early March). Also still waiting on BU but not expecting a lot from them. Tagging @SWColumbia because I remember seeing in a post from yonder back that you appealed?
  9. Question also for those who applied to BU- if you applied priority, did you application status ever change from "Complete" to "Complete 'Date'"? Mine never did, and apparently it was supposed to, but I never had time to call and ask.
  10. Hiya- Did anybody apply for financial aid to CU AFTER they were accepted? I was so busy with the application process that I did not have time to get it done until after, then had to get all of my tax info from back home, so I finally just submitted my FAFSA Sunday night. I saw on my account tonight that it was processed. If anybody else applied after they were accepted, how long did it take for your information to get processed and for you to receive your package? Thanks ?
  11. YES!!!!! Honestly was so invested and on this journey with you. Hopefully we will be classmates next year. CONGRATS!!!
  12. Yes! I was accepted on Feb 3rd for Clinical Social Work with a focus on Children, Youth, and Families for Fall 2020. Just waiting on finc. aid but 99.9 percent sure I'll be attending. It seems like you've already done a lot of research, and speaking with a professor will be great. Remember that you have a lot to offer, too. I think everybody overthinks their essays a little bit. CU was my first app and I literally must have re-read mine five times before I hit submit. For the writing process, it helped me to go to the library or buckle down for 2-3 hours, and then take a long break and step away from it- similar to writing a paper for school. I highly recommend having a few people read your essays- maybe 2- too many can just make you overwhelmed. If you have friends/mentors in the field that could be a great option :-).
  13. Hey guys! I was accepted on Monday to CU. I just checked my portal and it looks like my information has also been updated to just include my term and program. I also have the same note "Please note that you may change your Method Area and Field of Practice selections prior to matriculation or during your first year of study. Click here for additional information regarding Method Areas and Field of Practice." I hope that this gives you guys some peace of mind! Try not to jump to conclusions (I do the same).
  14. I would include a SS but I'm on my work comp and I don't know how to do it on these things lol.
