  1. If I may ask: what exactly do you mean by "Alabama-style"?
  2. Hello! I am just wondering what they expect to read in a writing sample. Do they want to see an essay-like discussion about one topic, for instance "How parliamentary systems work and how they could be improved?" Or something like a masters thesis like "Partisan voter behaviour explained by third generation prospect theory with state dependent reference points"? Or what? I have to admit that I do not have any idea about what kind of writing could be expected. Perhaps somebody here could provide information about their writing samples. How long, what topic (or field) and so on? This would be very helpful! How important are these writing samples? Kind regards Politicon
  3. Thanks a lot! Do you believe that I would have a chance to get into Rochester without having a strong background in political science? Do you know whether there are any other PhD programms in the US (that focus intensively on formal modelling and quantitative methods) I should consider for an application? Again, thanks a lot for all answers! Politicon
  4. Hello! I am going to graduate from an UK economics department next year (Master of Science in Economics and Econometrics). But I intend to switch to political science then for PhD programmes. However, the only political science courses that I can show are from a very very unknown department in Germany. That is why I would like to attend an additional Masters programme in Pol Sci with focus on quantitative methods and formal modelling as a preparation for an application to good universities in the US like Rochester or WashU. However, due to several reasons, I would like to do this masters in Europe, but I do not know which department offers FORMAL political science courses. Even the LSE emphasises that they use an historic approach. Do you have any idea which department could be suitable for my intentions? Helpfull comments would be highly appreciated! Kind regards Politicon
